A bit of a bizarre situation unfolded recently in the city of Sandy, Oregon, not far from Portland.
Starbucks baristas called the police after receiving a fraudulent order. But there’s much more to the story than that, and the whole thing should make everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Someone called in a prank order.

This is immensely frustrating for business owners who see their product go to waste, and for the employees who have to prepare the order.
After it became clear that the order — a bunch of coffee and treats — was a prank, a barista called the police.
Police arrived at the scene of the crime.

Insert joke about police officers never being far away from a good source of coffee and donuts, I guess.
Seriously, though, police responded to the call, where baristas filled them in on the story.
The twist here? No one was treating it like a crime.
The store just wanted to share the order.

“Rather than calling to report the incident as a crime, Starbucks chose to turn the negative into a positive and donated some of the items to the PD,” a Facebook post from the Sandy Police Department read.
The fake order was a big one.

While it was generous for the store to share the order with the Sandy Police Department, it was a massive order.
“Officers Ling and Moody saw that it was more than we could handle, so they shared the treats with the Sandy Library staff and the Sandy Fire Department,” the post continued.
It’s a great lesson.

There isn’t much that can be done in terms of fixing the fake order — police don’t have much to go on, and the food has already been prepared.
It may have been a frustrating situation to start with, but the baristas and police officers turned it into a big positive for everyone involved.
Facebook commenters were all about it.

It often feels like there’s no good news to read about on a given day, so a simple feel-good story like this has a way of resonating with everyone who hears about it. We could all stand to pay it forward from time to time.
