Christmas is a day to spend with family and friends. It’s also a day when babysitters typically don’t work since they’re also spending time with their family and friends. Unless you have to work Christmas Day, you shouldn’t need a babysitter anyway.
But a woman on Reddit was asked by the parents she babysits for if she’d work Christmas day. This is, of course, after the woman told them that it was one of her blackout dates. After refusing, the woman began to wonder if she should’ve had more empathy for them, or if she did the right thing. So, she asked the AITA community for input .

At 21, She Frequently Babysits For A Family.

The woman is a regular babysitter for a family that has three kids, 12, 9, and 3. She entered an agreement with the family that she won’t babysit on certain days of the year, including Christmas Day and her birthday. The family agreed to this.
But the parents came back and begged OP to babysit their kids for six hours on Christmas Day. Apparently, no one else could and they’re desperate. They were willing to give OP an extra $50 on top of her $15 per hour rate, but expected her to watch their kids and the kids’ cousins, as well as put them to bed. The parents will be home, but will be entertaining guests and don’t want the kids to interfere.
OP refused once again, as she already has plans to be with her family and friends. Her parents said she did the right thing. Other people she’s spoken to believe she needs to have more empathy for the family.
But The Comments Believe She Did The Right Thing.

The parents are expecting a lot from OP, and are only willing to give her an extra $50. The fact that they think she can babysit on Christmas Day after she told them it’s a blackout date is pretty disrespectful of them.
The Parents Can Be Responsible For Their Own Kids.

Commenters noted that the parents are not working on Christmas Day, and really have no excuse not to spend time with their kids. It sounds like they want to be able to party without having to parent at the same time.
In Fact, Most Commenters Condemned The Parents.

Christmas is a time for family. For the parents to think they can pawn their kids off on someone else is pretty sad. Commenters urged OP to stick to her guns.
