A deadly car crash which took place on Saturday, August 9, in Thailand, left a baby girl lucky to be alive thanks to her mother’s protective measures.
Footage of the rescue was shared
The Associated Press obtained footage of the late-night rescue where first responders were tensely racing to save a baby girl, believed to be around 1 years old, from an overturned vehicle that had plummeted nearly 50 feet into a ravine.
According to local outlet, Bangkok Post, this was in the Chiang Mai Province in Thailand.
Rescue teams arrived to the truck turned over

The rescue teams arrived at the horrifying scene at around 9 p.m. where they found a truck that had landed upside down. Its roof had struck a rock immediately upon impact, per the local outlet.
Passengers in the truck had been a family, of which the mother and father had been thrown from the vehicle.
The father alerted them to his daughter

It’s reported that the mother had tragically died at the scene.
The father, who was still conscious when the rescue teams arrived, made sure to alert them to his young daughter who was still trapped in the truck.
It was a distressing rescue
The video of the rescue, shared on Facebook, showed just how difficult it was for first responders to get to the baby and her father amid challenging elements like the narrow space, the pitch black darkness, and a stream which was running under the truck.
They eventually got to the baby

The video showed one first responder appearing to try and calm down the baby girl, while two others attempt to figure out how they’ll get her out.
Eventually, one is seen pulling the crying girl out of the car through one of the truck windows.
Her mother had made a protective set up
Rescue teams said they found the baby sitting in her car seat, which was wrapped in a blanket and surrounded by pillows that her mother had arranged to protect her.
According to AP, the pillows and blanket had worked as ‘makeshift airbags’ which cushioned the child as the truck plummeted.
The mother had saved her life
The mother was able to save her child’s life, despite losing her own.
“This sight deeply moved the rescue team, who were touched by the mother’s final act of love to shield her child from harm,” AP reported, per People.
