With the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests taking place across America and the world, many celebrities are expressing their support on social media.

One of these outspoken and supportive celebs is Ashton Kutcher.
Are we surprised? No. Ashton is big into equality and social justice issues!
Earlier this week, the actor announced a blackout on all of his social media channels.
Alongside his Instagram post symbolizing his blackout, the actor captioned the picture “BLM,” standing for Black Lives Matter.
The picture was that of a black and white American flag.
While many people supported Ashton’s post, others wanted to make it clear they believed in the “All Lives Matter” slogan.

“Every life, every breathing human, every race, every ethnicity. Every. Single. Life. Matters. Every person is someone’s loved one. To say one life is worth more than another, is the core of the problem,” commented one fan.
“MY LIFE MATTERS. YOUR LIFE MATTERS. EVERYONES LIFE MATTER,” commented another.
Now, Ashton is speaking out on Instagram to give his love to the Black Lives Matter movement, while also explaining how the phrase “All Lives Matter” is extremely harmful.
“And a lot of folks responded ‘All Lives Matter.’ And I want to talk about that a little bit because I don’t think that the people posting ‘All Lives Matter’ should be canceled. I think they should be educated.”
He continued: “We all agree all lives matter but I had a really pointed experience tonight when I was putting my kids down to bed that lent the words for why black lives matter.”

“Usually, Mila and I put our kids to bed, we read them a book, and our daughter always gets to go first.”

“And tonight, as we were reading her book, my son says, ‘Wait, why don’t I get to go first?’ And Mila said ‘Cause girls go first.’”
“And he said, ‘Yeah, but boys go first.’ And I looked at him and said, ‘No, girls go first. You know why girls go first? For you and me, girls go first.'”

“‘And the reason why is, for some boys, girls don’t get a go at all. And so for you and me, girls go first.’”
“So when it comes to Black Lives Matter, I think what folks are writing ‘All Lives Matter’ need to understand, is that for some people,” the actor said as he began to get emotional.

“For some people, black lives don’t matter at all.”
He ends the video with a powerful message: “So for us, black lives matter. So while you may have the best intentions in saying ‘All Lives Matter,’ remember… for some people, black lives don’t matter.”

It’s clear Ashton cares very deeply about the Black Lives Matter movement.
Ashton’s video has received a lot of positive feedback on social media. People love a good analogy!
People were sharing their own stories understanding the Black Lives Matter movement!
“Love this! When I first was introduced to BLM, I myself question why we can’t say ALM because I felt that saying BLM meant everyone else’s didn’t. I was wrong. I have learned and am continue to learn the value of the BLM movement and how I can help support the Black community,” wrote one fan.
Ashton’s post is further proof that it is so important for celebrities to use their platform to raise awareness for social justice issues that are close to their heart!
