Nicki Minaj is no stranger to controversy throughout her music career, but her latest song, “Say So (Remix)” by Doja Cat is creating backlash as Nicki’s verse is seen to contain ‘homophobic’ lyrics by some fans.
The lyric in question refers to Nicki’s past sexual identification.

The lyric is “Used to be bi, but now I’m just hetero” which referred to early in Nicki’s career when she admitted that she had claimed to be bisexual “to get attention.”
Fans immediately took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the line.
“Nicki minaj singing “used to be bi but now i’m just hetero” is so problematic. people are gonna take that to justify saying that bisexuality is just a phase which it 100% isn’t,” one fan tweeted .
Some fans suggested that Nicki was implying that bisexuality was just a phase.
“That Nicki verse is so gross… “I used to be bi but now I’m just hetero” yes thank you that makes bisexuals look great that makes the entire LGBT community look great thank you so much,” tweeted another.
However, others defended her.
Some fans believed that Nicki was just rapping about her own experience with sexuality and that it wasn’t that deep.
What do you think? Are people being too sensitive or should Nicki maybe have avoided that line? Let us know in the comments!
