Being a celebrity is difficult. Even when you have nothing but the best intentions, sometimes people are going to find faults in what you do. How you handle being called out in those situations says a lot about your character, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to many people that Cher is able to take criticism like a champ.
It’s hard to imagine anyone having a reason to be unhappy with Cher.
How do you have a bone to pick with the singer who brought you “Believe,” “If I Could Turn Back Time,” “I Got You Babe,” and the actress who brought you *Moonstruck, Mermaids, Mamma Mia,_ and Burlesque ?
Especially given most of the recent news about Cher has been so overwhelmingly positive!
Like Cher taking the initiative to rescue elephants and bring them to environments where they can be safe, healthy, and happy!

But even Cher can sometimes make a tweet that doesn’t sit well with her fans.
Over the weekend, Cher received backlash for a tweet she shared about the ongoing trial of Derek Chauvin as he was charged with the murder of George Floyd.
“Was talking With Mom & She Said ‘I Watched Trial Of Policeman Who Killed George Floyd,& Cried’. I Said ‘Mom, I Know This Is Gonna Sound CRAZY, But.. I Kept Thinking ….. Maybe If I’d Been There,… I Could’ve Helped,” Cher said in a now deleted tweet.
Cher immediately faced some criticism for centering herself in the conversation and sensitive subject matter.
“This is significantly underplaying what witnesses who testified TRIED to do to stop his death. There have been MULTIPLE testimonies of everyone from a firefighter to an MMA fighter to a senior man who attempted to diffuse the situation,” one fan responded .
Of course, some fans defended Cher’s tweet.
“I’m so sick of petty trolls. Cher is not the only one who has thought that if they were at the scene of George Floyd’s murder, they would have did something different,” one fan [tweeted]( https://twitter.com/anettenet/status/13783209287703060490 .
Many fans felt Cher’s initial thought was relatable.
“Dear Cher- lots more love than deride you. You offered your honest emotions. Nobody sane could see the agony of George Floyd without wishing they could have helped. All the bystanders we heard feel guilty and helpless. So does everybody, I believe,” one fan wrote .
Cher took the time to respond in a series of follow-up tweets.
“Wrestled With This Twt, Because I Thought some ppl wouldn’t understand, Or Believe an Entertainer Could have Honest emotions about a human Being,suffering & Dying,even if It’s Only Shown On tv. You Don’t Know What I’ve Done,Who I Am,Or What I Believe.I CAN,I HAVE,& I WILL.. HELP,” Cher wrote .
However, she followed that tweet up with an apology.
“Realized, You Can Piss Ppl Off,& Hurt Them By Not Knowing Everything That’s ”NOT Appropriate” To Say.I know Ppl Apologize When They’re In a Jam,BUT [hand] TO GOD,IM TRULY SORRY If I Upset AnyOne In Blk Community.I Know My [heart],” she added .
