If you’re an only child, you’ve probably wondered at one time or another what it’s like to grow up with siblings .
Speaking as someone who grew up with an older sister, I can tell you this: there’s no way to adequately describe the experience. It’s kind of one of those “if you know, you know” situations.
Growing up with a sibling isn’t always smooth. In fact, it can be downright infuriating at times. For anyone with a brother or sister, these tweets ought to resonate at least a little bit.
No one wants to back down.
This isn’t necessarily a sibling dynamic so much as a family dynamic: no one wants to fight anymore, but no one wants to apologize , either. This leads to the kind of stalemate that can only be broken up by someone getting hungry.

This tweet suggests a bit of a theme when it comes to sibling fights. It takes a certain amount of maturity to apologize, and it’s really hard to summon that maturity when your sibling has been pestering you all day long.

This is kind of an alien experience to me, but that’s probably because I learned from an early age that my sibling definitely didn’t want to share with her little brother. Sometimes it’s best to know when to back away.

I mean, we have the option to watch on-demand, commercial-free TV in 4K at the push of a button. That might sound hard to beat, but there’s really nothing like the adrenaline rush of trying to catch your favorite show as it airs.

Anyone remember what it was like to be a kid doing chores? It’s almost like siblings compete with each other to do the poorest possible job they can, while still being able to plausibly claim that they completed the task assigned to them.

Yeah, no one wants to be betrayed by a sibling. But at the same time, it isn’t usually until siblings are well on their way to adulthood that they’re fully able to view each other as allies instead of sworn enemies.
Sucks to be oldest.
You know how there are certain markets in which brands will test their items before rolling them out nationwide? Yeah, older siblings are kind of like test markets. Parents get to see what works and what doesn’t on the oldest sibling, making things way easier for the younger siblings.
Always be skeptical.
Siblings can be simultaneously associated with some of our best memories and some of our worst memories. Are they calling you in to share a fun adventure, or do they just want someone to beat up? It could honestly go either way.
That’s one way to look at it.
There’s something about the dynamic of siblings left home alone, totally unsupervised, that can lead to the most apocalyptic fights imaginable. Then, because you’re siblings at the end of the day, things just kind of cool off.
Good for him.
I don’t know if this is “the most sibling thing ever” — I mean, nothing about this story makes it inherently a sibling thing — but it’s a good story nonetheless. I wonder what finally broke the secret.
It’s a fight for survival.
If you have the foresight to know that you’ll be hungry soon, but you’re not hungry yet, it might be a good idea to grab a snack. Like, if you don’t do it now, your good-for-nothing sibling will probably get to it first.
