In just about every city in this country, there’s an animal rescue with vulnerable animals waiting to be adopted.
And while we would likely find that all of them have a story if we could speak their language, some tell that story whether they want to or not due to the clear physical differences they have to other potential pets.
Sadly, it’s not uncommon for those differences to be the result of how their previous owners treated them, but it’s also true that some rescue animals were simply born the way they are.
And considering how many of their peers are hoping to be adopted, the unique congenital conditions these adorable animals have can do a lot to help them stand out to curious animal lovers.
That certainly seemed to be the case for one Kansas cat who’s now found a loving home.
On March 2, the Kansas Humane Society introduced a black cat named Jinx to the world.

Although it’s not immediately clear from this picture, Jinx immediately stood out to both the rescue’s staff and their followers due to his extra toes.
As People reported , this is the result of a genetic condition called polydactyly and while it’s found in other species, it’s a little more common in cats.
In Jinx’s case, his polydactyly has given him enough extra toes to make it look like he’s got entirely new paws.

It’s for this reason that when the Humane Society announced Jinx’s presence at their rescue, they joked , “Jinx doesn’t have extra toes. He has extra paws (we’re exaggerating), and he’s planning to use them for world domination! You know, daily cat things…”
They also assured well-wishers that while Jinx has more than enough toes to go around, that doesn’t mean he has any pain or health problems as a result.

According to People , cats with polydactyly are often called Hemingway Cats due to famed writer Ernest Hemingway’s penchant for keeping a large number of them at his home in Key West, Florida.
Not only did this practice make the condition a little more common because his cats mated with local ones, but 60 of his pets’ descendants with the condition remain at the Hemingway Home Museum to this day.
But while Jinx may not be one of a kind when it comes to having extra toes, it quickly became clear that he made quite the impression on people.

That’s because it only took one day after the public was first made aware of his existence for Jinx to find a forever home.
He was taken home by Rebel O’Connor of Wichita, who said, “I adopted this little curious guy! He fits perfect in our home!”
I suppose he’ll be unveiling his plans for world domination sooner than we thought.
