Beauty is a struggle — a very fun, often expensive struggle. Something that’s super comforting about it, though, is knowing that there a bunch of other beauty fanatics out there taking on its challenges as well.
Hopefully this article reminds you that while you may be lost in a sea of skin-irritating face masks and broken concealers, you’ll never be alone.
1. When you have a legitimate meltdown when any of your product ends up somewhere that isn’t your face or its container.
Leaking nudes is a crime, and honestly? I think the other kind of leaking nudes should be a crime, too.
2. When you’re doing rituals in a forest and promising your firstborn to the devil in exchange for less blemishes, and your friend with perfect skin hasn’t even heard of toner.
People with perfect skin should use all of the money they’ve saved on skin care to buy us acne-clad people apology presents.
3. When you kill “as seen by other people” you and embrace “at home and very relaxed” you, and you feel IN. CRED. I. BLE.
Throw in an episode of Friends and maybe some chocolate, and it’s as good as life gets.
4. When you spend so long on your brows that by the time you’re ready, the party is literally over.
“What? I missed the whole wedding? Honestly it’s probably a good thing, my eye makeup would have upstaged the bride.”
5. When you tell yourself that pretty hurts, but that doesn’t make it hurt any less.
I have to admit, this whole “growing out your eyebrows” trend has been really helpful for all of us weak people who hate pain. Thanks, Cara Delevingne!
It’s always good to have a li’l support while you’re getting your brows done.
You know, to hold your hand or cheer you on through the pain…or to document the pain and embarrass you with it later.
6. When you finally accept that your brows aren’t twins, or sisters, or cousins, or work colleagues, or people that bumped into each other one time on the street…
Hopefully they’ll just bond and eventually become best friends.
7. When you spend a lifetime on your lashes and they have the audacity to try and leave you.
It’s the 21st century, can science just make a more powerful eyelash glue already?!
8. When nobody seems to understand that looking good takes TIME AND EFFORT, PEOPLE.
“Beyoncé may have woken up like this, but I did not. I took hours to look like this.”
Seriously, tho. If I say I’m going to need an extra five minutes, just know I’m actually gonna need at least another 45.
No tea, no shade, this is just who I am. And if you don’t know that by now, then that’s not my problem, hunny!
9. When you feel blessed AF when your brows are growing thicker, but also cursed AF when you realize it’s probably time to sculpt.
It’s a fine line between “growing out my brows” and “my brows are a shapeless mess.”
10. When you get hit with a case of the “nah, not feeling myself today,” and there’s nothing you can do about it.
It’s not that we don’t think we’re beautiful! Sometimes your face just really do be like that.
11. When you milk every drop of your expensive makeup like it’s liquid gold.
Yep, looks like I’m just rubbing my face on the floor tonight — what a cute beauty blender alternative!
But what’s even worse is when your foundation breaks.
My eyes are tearing up just looking at this. It happens to the best of us…but I wouldn’t even wish this nightmare on my worst enemy.
12. When you think you’re kind of good at makeup and then you remember makeup has become the 21st century equivalent of those fancy church ceilings.
It makes my cool smoky eye feel slightly less impressive.
But, seriously, when I was a young, there were, like, two types of concealer to choose from.
And now there are, like, 7000 types of concealers that could easily be confused as lipgloss, just like this green one.
13. When you give one hundred percent to your makeup, but it just comes out looking one hundred percent terrible.
Practice makes perfect. And it makes for a lot of money spent on makeup wipes.
And sometimes, you just gotta take your frustrations out on your face.
I don’t think this is what YouTubers mean when they say to beat your face, but you just do you, boo.
14. When you know you should just cool it with the makeup, but you physically can’t, so you show up waaay more made up than everyone else.
But you’re loving yourself sick, so really, who cares?

15. When you’re so pumped for a new face mask that you forget to test it first.
“It’s like a lip tint but for your whole face! So fun ,” I weep into the mirror.
There are a lot of things that could go wrong with a face mask: it could stain your skin, it could stick to your hair…
But the risk is worth it potentially fixing everything .
16. When people know your skin, but they don’t know your story.
I actually can’t relate to this picture at all because his skin is flawless, and mine is definitely a work in progress, but good for him!
But don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here, dreaming about flawless skin.
