I used to think that anyone who would be naive enough to get married before the age of 25 would ultimately be filing for divorce before the age of 30.
While this has largely been the outcome for the majority of couples I’ve known personally, there are always exceptions that prove the rule. See what I mean and read as these women of Reddit open up about why they got married before 25.

Reddit user Veganmon got engaged after the third date, married 12 weeks later, and all before she turned 20-years-old. She and her husband have been married for 27 years , they have 3 children together, one grandchild, and are as madly in love as they ever were.
The fear of the unknown.
Reddit user Practical_Tear_1012 was battling depression and mistook happiness for love. Even though she eventually came to the realization that he was wrong for her, she was too paralyzed by fear to call off the engagement.
Don’t stay together for the kids.
Reddit user charlothecat had just turned 19 when she and her ex-husband decided to get married. She knew him for all of six weeks and stayed with him for 16 years before finally getting a divorce. According to her Reddit post, she’d have left ages ago were it not for their kids.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Quite simply, Redditor cloverthewonderkitty and her husband knew what they wanted. They were engaged at 20, married at 21, and just couldn’t wait to begin their life’s journey with one another. It’s been more than 15 years and they’re still going strong.
Because God told me to do it.
Redditor forgotteau_my_gateau was married at 22 and divorced by 25. She explained that she and her ex grew up in an incredibly religious community that condemned sex before marriage . The strict timelines caused her to ignore some major red flags, and she has since distanced herself from the church.
Because it was expected.
Redditor TracyECEC explained that the reason she decided to get married at 19 is that she was tired of being celibate and alone. She was getting intense familial pressure to tie the knot and is almost certain that her parents would’ve ex-communicated her from the family, otherwise.
No one can decide when the time is right, except for you.
Reddit user bluecanary99 and her husband got married at 22 after dating for five years prior. She knew right from the get-go that marriage was in their future, but decided to wait until after college. They have now been happily married for over 18 years.
Not every fairytale has a happy ending.

Getting swept up in the romantic idealism of “first love.”
Reddit user ad0rkablelol met her ex-husband at 19. They got married a year later, had their first child together at 22, the second at 23, and the two were divorced by the time she turned 26.
Love is blind, deaf, and dumb.
Reddit user 2020grilledcheese explains that the reason she got married was due to the fact that she was blindly in love; it barely lasted two years. Then at 29, she got remarried and has been happily wed for over 18 years.
Compatible life goals and the feeling of empowerment through another.
When Redditor EWCM finally found someone who made her life better, she wasn’t about to start fighting fate. Both she and her husband were married at 23 and they’ve been together for over 10 years.
It was the only logical choice.
Reddit user bmbmwmfm had a rather unfortunate reason for choosing to get married — she was pregnant. Unfortunately, at the time she had no other means of support in her life and simply chose what she deemed to be the path of least resistance.
Opposites attract but similarities bind.
