Taiwan-born Canadian model and actor Godfrey Gao, known for his roles in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Shanghai Fortress, and for being the first Asian model for Louis Vuitton, has died at the age of 35.
Gao was filming for a new Chinese reality show called ‘Chase Me.’

The show involves celebrities performing challenging physical stunts and tasks. Gao reportedly collapsed while filming.
Gao’s modelling agency, JetStar, has released a statement following his death.

“In the early hours of Nov. 27, our beloved Godfrey collapsed while filming on set,” their statement read .
“Unfortunately following three hours of medical rescue efforts, he left us.”

“We are very shocked and saddened and even until now find it impossible to accept,” the statement finished.
Fans and friends are leaving message of love and support on social media.
“My heart is absolutely shattered. Godfrey left us far too soon and in far too tragic of a way,” actor Simu Liu tweeted .
Some have expressed anger over the circumstances of Gao’s death.
“And keep in mind, Godfrey Gao was an athletic person. So that lets you know how hard they pushed him during the filming of that show. He was only 35 years old. That’s so young. And I am sad, but at the moment my anger is overpowering my sadness,” they continued .
Gao’s ‘Mortal Instruments’ co-star Kevin Zegers shared a photograph of the two at Comic Con.
Zegers also tweeted, “RIP @GodfreyGao. Kindest guy I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with.”
“He was so kind and down to earth, and had his whole life ahead of him. RIP.”
