Jessica Simpson’s newborn baby Birdie made another sneak appearance on the singer’s Instagram page.
The only problem is, people are having some strong opinions on how Birdie is being shown—or better yet—hidden.
Jessica gave birth to her daughter Birdie Mae Johnson on March 19th of this year.
Birdie is Jessica’s third child with her husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson. The couple also have a 6-year-old daughter named Maxwell and a 5-year-old son named Ace.
Simpson has been very open and honest throughout her pregnancy
The singer has documented all of the ups and downs she’s experienced over the past 9 months on her social media.
That includes opening up about just how difficult her third pregnancy has been.
First it was the swollen feet
Jessica’s Instagram followers came to the rescue when the singer revealed a very swollen foot while asking for remedies.
Then she got bronchitis
Getting sick is already bad enough as it is, but imagine being pregnant and sick.
Jessica posted this picture after spending a week in the hospital for bronchitis and said, ” Coughing with Birdie has been a crazy painful journey. I am slowly getting healthier every day. Baby girl was monitored and is doing amazing!”
And just when things couldn’t get worse, this happened
She broke a toilet seat. I don’t know about you but I think I would be pretty fed up of being pregnant at that point.
One thing I can say is that I admire how positive and good humored she’s remained in spite of it all.
Since Birdie’s birth, Simpson has continued to share her journey online.
Her filled-to-the-brim baby bottle of breast milk got over 280,000 likes and nearly 10,000 comments.
And for good reason. Her milk production levels are goals.
But the online praise ended when Simpson decided to show some love to her hubby.
A few days ago, Simpson shared an otherwise innocent pic of her husband Eric with the caption “Hot Dad Alert.”
You can also see that Johnson is holding a car seat in one hand.
A Fendi blanket is draped over the seat and hides baby Birdie, who we’re assuming is probably sleeping away inside.
Seems innocent enough, right? Wrong.
First, there was the foreshadowing.
Instagram user @shejustherelurkin already predicted that a bunch of negative Nancys would descend into the comment section.
Then came the comments
Dozens of people quickly took issue with the way Birdie was covered up.
One person commented and said, “Let the baby breath, not cover her too much!!!”
Another chimed in, “Hot baby too! Please don’t cover up the car seat with a blanket. Air can not circulate and baby will over heat and become extremely unwell.”
Meanwhile, others decided to come to Simpson’s defense.
“Some of the posts on here amaze me. Stop judging! I have zero belief that baby is too hot with the cover – she’s probably trying to avoid crazies like you from seeing her new baby! Go troll somewhere else,” one person commented.
Some people tried to explain the reason why they think the blanket is covering Birdie.
“It’s cold. But more importantly it keeps strangers from hovering over your baby and it helps to keep them healthy in the winter flu season,” one user explained to another.
Others mentioned how much easier it is to cover your baby with a blanket than it is to put on and take off a bulky winter coat.
The car seat covers, or blankets draped over car seats and strollers debate isn’t anything new.
People have been doing this- and debating over it- for ages.
Many argue that the blanket either keeps babies warm and/or protects their sensitive skin from the sun.
But many others think the practice is dangerous for infants.
Swedish researchers found that placing just a thin blanket over a stroller causes temperatures inside to reach dangerous levels in a shorter amount of time.
At the end of the day though, Jessica is a mom.
Mom knows best and let’s all remember that this isn’t her first baby. If she could successfully raise her first two children, it’s safe to say she probably knows what she’s doing.
Also, we have no idea how long Birdie was under the blanket, how hot it was or (plot twist!) if she was even in the car seat and ultimately, is it really any of our business?
