Most younger siblings know how hard it is to get out of your older siblings’ shadows in life. Up until you’re an adult, everything you do gets compared to them, by your parents, by your teachers, and by your friends and family. That gets magnified by tenfold when your family is in the spotlight, as Noah Cyrus has outlined in an emotional new interview.
Noah Cyrus, a singer, is the younger sister of Miley Cyrus.
In a new single released called “Young & Sad,” Noah sings “My sister’s like sunshine, always bringing good light wherever she will go, and I was born to rain clouds, when they blew the flame out, blessed in her shadow.”
Noah took to Instagram Live to explain the emotional meaning behind those lyrics.
“Everyone gave me such a hard time being Miley’s little sister,” Noah began, immediately getting emotional and sounding choked up.

“But you know, I always felt like I was that person that nobody gave a [expletive] about due to what people said online,” she continued. “It was absolutely unbearable.”
Noah also opened up about how mean comments online made her feel like she would always be stuck in Miley’s shadow.
“It was something I heard my whole life, every single day, my whole life,” she said.
“It was either that or I wasn’t enough in some way, whether it was the way I look or the way I am,” Noah said. “I said the other day, I feel like sometimes I don’t even breathe right.”
“I just wanted to open up about that once and for all,” Noah concluded.
“That’s been a big part of my life, and I probably won’t talk about it anymore, but I just wanted to put it out there,” Noah stated.
