Dealing with a major illness in your family is hard for all your loved ones, but it’s possible to find comfort and guidance from many different sources.
For Alex Trebek’s wife of 29 years, Jean, her comfort is coming from her faith.
The world was shocked and devastated when Alex Trebek announced in March he had been diagnosed with cancer.
In a video uploaded to the Jeopardy! YouTube channel, beloved host Alex Trebek revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. “I plan to beat the low survival-rate statistics for this disease,” he said in the video.
In May, Alex seemed to have good news to share.

Speaking to People , Alex had said, “It’s kind of mind-boggling. The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory…some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”
However, the good news didn’t last.

In September, Alex revealed a “dismal” update on his health on Good Morning America , saying, “I lost about 12 pounds in a week and my numbers went sky high — much higher than they were when I was first diagnosed, so the doctors have decided that I have to undergo chemo again.”
Alex’s wife, Jean, has notoriously remained private throughout their 29 year marriage, but recently spoke about her journey with Alex’s illness.

Speaking to SruvivorNet , Jean opened up about how her faith as a licensed practitioner of Religious Science has helped her in this difficult time. Religious Science combines elements of sound healing, Reiki, and meditation.
Jean revealed that although she had practiced some elements of her healing with Alex, it was done more for her own spiritual benefit.

“It comes from a place of love, because I want to uplift him … and when I keep my own self buoyed and enjoying my life, I can actually share that with him,” she said.
“He can look at me and have a sense of ‘life is beautiful; my wife is doing something good.'”

Jean also had some advice for others who are going through similar struggles as her family. “Just ask the universe, ‘What’s the next step for me?’” she said. “The universe will always respond.”
“I am absolutely sure that we live in a benevolent universe that is always conspiring for our highest and greatest good.”
It’s wonderful that Alex has such a good support system during this difficult time.
We’re all keeping Alex in our thoughts as he continues to fight this battle.
