A naturopathy doctor has shared seven tips that can help protect your body against food poisoning, and some of these are perfectly easy to maintain.
She shared the information online
Dr Janine Bowring shared the protective information in a video on her TikTok platform.
Bowring is a doctor based in Canada with over 25 years of experience and clinical research.
Her first tip is to trust your gut

It may seem obvious, but her first tip is to steer clear of foods that look like they could be ‘off’ or expired. While this sounds pretty standard, a lot of people don’t always do it.
“You’re gonna try to avoid bad foods to begin with, use your own animal instincts. So, your sense of smell, and your intuition, if something seems like it might be bad, just don’t eat it,” she said.
The next tip is to take care of your stomach acid
The doctor’s second tip is to ‘optimize your stomach acid’, which helps break down food in the stomach. When it’s healthy, it can help kill off some of the bacteria.
She explained not to take too many anti-acids in order to keep your stomach healthy.
The third pointer is supplements
Similar to the piece of advice before it, the third tip is to add digestive enzyme supplements to your daily routine.
They’re naturally occurring in your stomach and work to break down foods in the stomach. But some people need extra enzymes in their body so they can opt for supplements, per Johns Hopkins Medicine.
She also advised on the diet
Dr Bowring’s fourth tip was to drink mint tea as it helps with digestion and is ‘very soothing and cooling’.
In the same vein, her fifth tip was to try C.A.B.O. which stands for cloves, artemisia, black walnuts and oregano. These are great for ‘killing off those unwanted organisms in your gut’.
Her sixth tip was taking probiotics
For her sixth pointer, Dr Bowring urged people to take probiotics, explaining that they help restore the gut with what’s called ‘good bacteria’ which promotes gut health.
She advised that you get enough sunlight
Her last piece of advice was to ensure you’re getting enough natural sunlight.
“This is gonna program your healthy microbiome in sync with nature and your circadian rhythms so that you don’t get that food poisoning,” she said.
