Obviously, polygamy isn’t for everyone — personally, I find picking up after just one lazy partner time-consuming enough, let alone four others! And trying to decide who gets to watch their team’s football game on the big screen? I’m exhausted just thinking about it.
But just because I have too delicate a constitution for it doesn’t mean everyone feels that way — for some people it works, like the Brown family from TLC’s Sister Wives !
Well, it works for some of them.
*Sister Wives* has been a staple of reality television for years.
The show, which has run since 2010, follows polygamist Kody Brown and his four wives — Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn — as they raise their 18 children and navigate their very unique home life.
I don’t envy them on laundry day!
Kody and Meri, his first wife, have been married since 1990.
Their legal marriage was ended when Kody legally married his newest wife, Robyn, in 2010 as a way to adopt her children from a previous marriage.
In November last year, Meri made headlines when rumors began that she may have split from Kody, due to him not appearing in her Instagram pictures for over a year and the fact that she seemed to no longer be wearing her wedding ring.
Meri addressed these rumors on her Instagram in December.
“Let’s just clarify something here. I love this man,” she wrote , alongside a photo with Kody. “I don’t owe anyone an explanation but I’ll do it anyway.
“I’m well aware that we, as a family, have chosen to put ourselves ‘out there’, which, in turn, brings about all kinds of speculation, commentary, and opinions. But it comes down to this. My relationship with him is MY relationship with him.”

In a recent episode of the show, Meri and Kody opened up about their struggles in a very blunt way.
“We ended up going back to Las Vegas to see our therapist, Nancy, and just kind of like, work through our relationship,” Meri revealed .
“We’re family, but we’re not acting married,” Kody told their therapist in a flashback sequence.
Meri added, “the relationship between he and I is gone — it’s dead, it’s over.”
“My relationship with Meri is at best just distant and amicable,” Kody went on to say.
“You know, I could buck up … be tough about it, but I’m not interested in it,” he added.
Now, everyone’s relationship is different, but I think if my husband said that about me on television, I’d have some pretty strong words for him!
Of course, maybe that’s why I only have one husband.
Kody added he felt fulfilled by his other relationships.
“I haven’t put relationship effort into that relationship specifically because I have three other relationships that are rewarding and wholesome and with children that need me, need to see me,” he said.
Meri wrapped up the conversation by stating she didn’t want Kody to think she was pushy.
Meri said she was “really careful about pushing Kody because I don’t want him to feel like I’m being demanding or pushy or anything like that.”
Recently, the family created headlines for issues with another one of Kody’s wives.
Kody’s third wife, Christine, opened up during the season 10 premiere about the struggles she’s facing in their relationship since the family moved to separate homes rather than sharing one large household.
“It’s not just that we are geographically different, because I expected geographically different,” Christine said.
“But what I didn’t expect was to feel isolated and feel separate,” Christine added . “It feels lonely.”
Christine explained that this feeling wasn’t helped by the fact that Kody is often disengaged from her and on his phone.
“I’m really sorry — I still get jealous,” Christine explained.
“I still get super, super, super jealous and I’m really, really, really sorry,” Christine said, adding, “it makes getting together hard — really, really hard.”
“I thought I’d be stronger on my own, but I’m not. And it’s really hard to just feel like I can contribute anything,” she added.
I guess it’s not surprising that a marriage with more spouses has more drama!
