Liam Payne, known for his former role in the UK pop band One Direction, has died, according to reports. He was 31.
Sources indicate that Payne fell from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Argentina.
Payne was staying at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Embed from Getty ImagesWitnesses tell TMZ that the singer’s body was found after the fall from the balcony. Payne was identified by his signature tattoos. It is not known at this time if the fall was an accident or intentional.
Reports also indicate the events leading up to his death
Embed from Getty ImagesPrior to the fall, Payne had been seen in the hotel lobby “acting erratic.” Witnesses say he was seen smashing his laptop and causing a scene, yelling and screaming.
He was later escorted back to his hotel room before eventually falling to his death.
Payne was in Argentina for a Niall Horan concert

The former frontman had been struggling with addiction for the last few years
Embed from Getty ImagesIn June 2021, Payne admitted to struggling with addiction and having suicidal thoughts while on tour with One Direction. Payne’s ex-fiancé, Maya Henry, also spoke about ending their engagement. She had recently served him paperwork to “stop contacting her.”
Payne’s death is still under investigation
Embed from Getty ImagesIt is unclear at this time if Payne’s death had any connection to the behavior seen in the hotel lobby prior to his fall. Sources say that the incident took place shortly after 5 P.M., and first responders covered his body in a red tent to examine.
At this time, there is no confirmation from authorities as to whether or not the behavior witnessed had anything to do with his tragic death.
