Even though none of us remember our very first birthdays, our parents do, and for them it’s a huge deal . A monumental occasion that’s celebrated with a party (that totally isn’t an excuse to have your adult friends and family over).
For one Mexican TikToker, her choice of theme and decorations for her daughter’s first birthday caught the attention of the internet, leading many to believe that it was some kind of demonic ritual .
Janeth Zapata is under fire for the ‘Satanic’ birthday party she threw for her daughter, Lilith.

In August, the mom posted a TikTok of her daughter’s first birthday party, showing images of Lilith dressed in black with various black and pink balloons and decorations.
A caption at the beginning of the video reads (translated from Spanish), “Rumors say I had the best outfit for my first birthday.”

Within the images, decorations that some thought were alarming can be seen. This includes a piñata of what viewers thought was Satan, and five-pointed stars viewers took to be demonic.
In a separate TikTok, Janeth showed off the invitations for her daughter’s party.

Describing it as “cute as hell,” it’s hard not to see how some people took the party to be some kind of Satanic, and possibly evil ritual.
The TikTok since went viral, with over 2.5 million views since its upload.
Many users had begun commenting that the party must have been demonic in nature, with some even believing it was a cover for some kind of Satanic sacrifice.
Janeth has since used TikTok to clear the air.

In Spanish, the mom took to the comments on her video to dispel any negative rumors.
“I see there are many news sites that put out my daughter’s party with lies,” she wrote.
And in fact, any of the “demonic” symbolism wasn’t demonic at all.

“1. We’re not Satanists. 2. There were guests. 3. The party didn’t have anything Satanic. 4. The piñata isn’t Satan, nor the Devil, it’s Baphomet. 5. The pentagram isn’t inverted because it’s not Satanic.”
The piñata is, in fact, Baphomet.

And no, Baphomet isn’t the devil. Though, interestingly, Baphomet is used as a symbol for modern Satanism (which, surprisingly, has nothing to do with actual Satan ). However, it is still associated with demons and the like.
And the pentagram motif that people pointed out isn’t the “bad” kind.

As Janeth said in her comment, the pentagrams in Lilith’s party decorations are pointing upward, which is associated with good luck in certain cultures. When it’s inverted (only one point is facing downward), then it’s associated with the devil , bad luck, and ill omens.
Though, it can also be associated with Baphomet.

So, take that as you will.
The bottom line is that, though the party definitely has some occult imagery and décor, it doesn’t seem to be any kind of actual evil or demonic ritual.
It’s probably just all in good fun.
And amazingly, more recent commenters… are kind of loving it.
“Never seen anyone do this, I love it! Ignore all the angry people, hope it was a fun time,” a commenter wrote. Many others echoed the sentiment.
Let’s not forget, the theme was “cute as hell.”
