Finding the perfect gift can be a difficult proposition. We’ve all given and received our fair share of mediocre gifts, and hope that future gifts will be better.
If you’re looking for some inspiration this holiday season…well, you’re probably not going to find it here, honestly. But you’ll definitely get a few laughs out of the experience.

Here’s a fun one to kick off our list: shirtception. Sure, it might take awhile for the shirtception effect to take hold, but after a few years, the design really pops.

I’m not sure if this gift would go over that well, but it’s practical. Everyone’s going to need one of these eventually.

Whenver I see one of these, I have a chuckle, then feel fortunate that none of my family or friends is inclined to give a gift like this.

If I got one of these, I’d want to seek out all of the Chicken McNugget shapes: there’s this one, the bell-shaped one, the blob one, and the other kind!
“Hope my boyfriend enjoys the personal engraving on his gift.”
Sometimes you’re hoping to get a shiny new Apple product, but have to settle for a glossy new Samsung product. With this bit of personalization, you can get both at once.
“Monogram towels, probably my favorite wedding gift.”
Towels are an immensely practical gift, particularly at a wedding, when you’re likely to get a few impractical gifts. You just might have to deal with the fact that they have an unfortunate monogram.
“Parents gave me a gift for college today, which was all the money that my mom found in my pockets when doing my laundry…..”
OP didn’t specify the period of time this money accumulated over, so it’s possible that this is the result of one laundry day.
“Having been given it as a gift but unsure of what it does, my mother used her $140 Apple trackpad as a mousepad.”
This is such a mom move: they receive incredible technology as a gift, don’t understand it, but are too sweet to not find a use for it.
“Our friend is buying his first home today, so we worked with his realtor to be sure this is the first thing waiting for him in his kitchen after closing.”
If I was this friend, I’d immediately fire my realtor after this happened.

If you’re the kind of person who’s been to too many weddings and is getting a bit sick of the whole thing, sending out invoices like this is a surefire way to not get invited to any more.
“Gift of ‘cold hard cash.'”
I kind of like this one. It isn’t as extreme as wrapping a gift in concrete, but it still qualifies as a gag gift. The recipient still gets a reasonably nice gift, too: wet money.
“I have an Australian coworker (we are in US) and I’m giving him this as a gift today….”
I’ll never understand what the appeal of Marmite is, but then again, I’m not Australian. In any event, the cute case totally makes this gift.
“I have a friend who always gets me a gag birthday gift (and a real one after).”
I like how OP specified that they also provided a real gift. That’s nice and all, but there’d be way more sting to this if they didn’t.
“This gift could make Christmas interesting.”
Parents will never admit that they have a favorite child, but they definitely do. This would go over better as a gag gift, but it could work as a devastating insult gift as well.
“Got my wife a Mother’s Day gift. Jurassic park Jeff goldbloom shower curtain. What the [expletive]?’ Was her reaction.”
I don’t understand how that was her reaction. “Thank you, thank you, thank you, it’s perfect, I love you,” said through tears of joy, would be the appropriate response.
“The present I gave my wife for her 46th birthday.”
Once you enter the autumn of your years on your 46th birthday, things start to change. It’s nice that her husband is encouraging her to stay active in her old age.
“Took longer than I care to admit. But I successfully wrapped a gift card!”
When I see these efforts, I roll my eyes a bit, then feel kind of demoralized at the knowledge that I’ll never have this kind of ambition.
“My team left me this gift on my desk this morning.”
A gift like this isn’t going to make your job any less infuriating, but knowing that your coworkers feel the same way helps take a little of the sting off.
“Sibling gift exchange.”
I like that this brother and sister are operating on the same wavelength. Sometimes, gifts are overrated. When you’ve got too many bills to pay to buy your sibling a nice gift, you may as well own it.
“My wife is way too amused at my sister’s gift to me.”
These silly novelty shirts are usually only good for working out in or turning into dishrags, but sometimes, it’s the reaction that makes all the difference. Judging by his wife’s expression, I think this one has a grain of truth to it.
