When looking for a nanny to take care of their kids, some parents have some pretty crazy requirements.
Many parents think that someone who takes care of their child should be extremely specific and “on,” but also, they want the person to work for usually a small amount of money, too. Many parents often look at nannies to do all the work for them .
While nannies are pretty common in many families, sometimes, parents can get a bit wild with the requirements.
There are tons of families who have nannies. Nannies can be a true help to families who have two working parents, or even a working single parent. But, sometimes, the requirements can be so insane that it’s hard to believe anyone would take that job.
Recently, one comedy writer on Twitter decided to begin sharing some “nanny posts” she found from parents online.
Emily Murnane said that her favorite “Facebook genre” is the posts that many parents put online about wanting a nanny. One post that she shared was that a parent wanted their nanny to have a master’s degree, so that their 5 and 7-year-old children can be “intellectually challenged.”
The post got even better from there.
The parent said that an English degree “didn’t count” as good enough. On top of that, they want the person to bring their own food for the kids because they are “locking” their cabinets throughout the day. Also, the pay is only $18 per day . What?!?
People online were totally floored.
Many people online were quick to say that $18 per day is ridiculously low for a person who has a masters degree. Also, they seem to not be giving their children any access to food or a good education and want their kids to be “challenged.”
Others said the age and college requirements don’t add up.
Someone pointed out that it’s truly not possible to have a person who is 24 years old with a master’s degree within the timeframe it takes to graduate from their bachelor’s degree—it usually happens at 22/23.

Another person said in high school they were paid more.
One Twitter user showcased that in high school, they were paid $20 per hour to watch three kids. That’s way more than getting only $18 per day—because it’s several hours. Not only that, but it did happen in the early 2000s—before inflation.

One Twitter user said she makes $45 per day to babysit pets. While it’s not children, pets can be as important to individuals as children. They also sometimes give money for UberEats or even a bottle of wine when she does overnight sitting.
Another posting showcased other parents are no better.
In another posting, the person was to have nine years of experience in childcare with absolutely no traffic violations or problems with the law—don’t worry, they will be using the database! No tattoos at all, either, and they even specified political leanings.
Some pointed out that this job listing pays far less.
If you look closely at the job requirements, it seems that the person has to be willing to pay for snacks for their children—so, they’ll be using their own pay to feed the kids.
Many feel that it’s a true showing of what kind of parents these are.
One person shared that if a parent wants almost ten years of experience for their babysitter, it shows that their kids must not be that well-behaved and that they probably failed as parents.
Not only that, but she wanted someone who is a certified nurse assistant.
Caring about your children’s wellbeing is one thing, but wanting someone to also be certified and unwilling to up the pay to a normal and decent salary? Seems like a huge stretch to me!
Another pointed out that the payment has to be way higher for these qualifications.
If the parents really wanted the things they are asking for, they have to up the pay rather high. $10 an hour is pretty low for what they are asking, instead, they should be paying $30-$50 an hour for these things.
People were also quick to let everyone know that you can make more money at a grocery store.
While babysitting and nannying are “easy gigs” with shorter hours and a better schedule, many were quick to point out that it’s better to work at a grocery store because you’ll make more money.
Some even shared true nanny experiences.
Apparently, some people who are nannies get to have shifts with other nannies and the family will pay for your housing, too. Imagine that! Not only getting a real paycheck but also getting to travel and have your rent paid.

Finding the right person to watch your kids is super important, but we also know that deep down it’s not fair to have a laundry list of requirements and then pay them less than most people make at minimum wage.
