As they always say, you can’t choose your family.
Sure, you can choose who you’ll treat as a family in life and you can choose who in your family you want close to you, but chances are you’ll have to deal with at least one annoying relative at some point.
Some won’t treat you with the respect your deserve, some will try and take advantage of you, and some out there will do things to their families that are outright criminal.
But even if the relatives you dread visiting don’t take things to that extreme, they can still find a way to insert some unneeded drama in your life.
And as one woman’s story illustrates, it’s particularly easy to get fed up with that behavior when you’re already dealing with another problem relative.
The way one woman describes her older brother, he’s often without a job and makes a habit of mooching off of others during these times.
As she explained in a Reddit post , this means he eats as much of their food as he can, never cleans anything (including his clothes and dishes), and keeps this act up for months at a time.
In the woman’s words, “He’s lost friends because of how long he bummed off of them and I don’t blame them for cutting him off.”
And while he had hoped to stay with his parents after his last employment misadventure, he found himself out of luck since they had already taken in his other brother and sister-in-law after the former was suddenly laid off and the latter’s workplace burned down.
This led the woman’s parents, aunt and uncle to put on the pressure to let him stay with her and she felt bad enough for him to accept.
And while she told him that he had a few months to get back on his feet before she kicked him out, the brother seemed to ignore this and kept up his usual routine.
Finally, she had enough after six months of dealing with him and told him he now had two weeks to find another housing arrangement.
Although the woman’s parents understood her situation after he inevitably complained to them, they also told some other relatives what had happened.
As the woman put it, “My busybody aunt called me and scolded me for ‘being cruel to my brother’ and ‘abandoning family when they need help.’
It’s worth noting that she has a history of sticking her nose into everyone else’s business within the family, but this history only made the woman ready for her.
So she told the aunt that she was right and understood that helping family was important. But while the aunt was initially satisfied with this response, what she didn’t realize was that the woman took that conversation as an invitation to leave the brother at the aunt’s house.
After all, the aunt could easily find room for him since all of her children had already moved out.
And while the brother is apparently still living there, it’s clear that aunt didn’t want to house him anymore than his sister did and called her some incredibly rude words for using her own supposed principles against her.

As one user said , “I like your style. It’s easy to criticize without having to offer help. Auntie is in for a rude awakening.”
In the words of another, “It was none of your aunt’s business, she wanted to meddle. And you proved a point. She could have easily just denied him a room too.”
Sometimes it pays to keep your mouth shut.
