Although I’ve only ever visited nursing homes, it seems that they can often feel a little lonely. And when they’re not, there’s often a catch.
For instance, my grandfather had a few roommates towards the end of life. Unfortunately, one of them was a man who rarely stopped screaming for help. Believe it or not, that’s a fairly common occurrence in one of these places.
So if you must spend an extended period in an assisted living facility, it’s certainly easy to feel like you’ve hit the jackpot when the person you’re sharing that space with is someone you already know.
And thanks to one important choice by his mother, a man in England has just hit that jackpot.
80-year-old Tom Keating was once a painter and decorator for a building company based out of Liverpool, England.

After retiring from this occupation, he started living at a local care home back in 2016.
After living with this arrangement for a year, however, Tom would soon be joined by his mother, Ada.

As The Daily Mail reported , the 98-year-old former nurse specifically moved into her son’s residence so she could look after him.
For Tom, this was a return to an arrangement he had grown used to over the years.

As The Liverpool Echo reported , this is because Tom had never married and had lived with Ada all his life.
Both the home’s staff and the Keating family have said the two are inseparable and all seem happy with the arrangement.

As the home’s manager Philip Daniels told The Liverpool Echo , “It’s very touching to see the close relationship both Tom and Ada share and we are so pleased we were able to accommodate both of their needs.”
Ada’s granddaughter Debi has said there’s no parting them and Ada herself seemed to confirm this.

As she said , “When I go out to the hairdressers he’ll look for me to see when I’m coming back. When I get back he’ll come to me with his arms outstretched and give me a big hug. You never stop being a mum.”
