Have you ever walked into a building only to realize it used to be something completely else? Like when you walk into a restaurant and find out it actually used to be a bank and you get to sit in the vault to have your meal. Isn’t that something?
I find it so cool that places like that don’t just get knocked down but are instead repurposed in an interesting way.
1. This Airbnb

What if you could rent a unique space to stay in like this converted water tower in Tahoe that’s now an Airbnb? Looks pretty intact too.
2. This College

Why get rid of a space when you can just repurpose it? This unique place used to be a roundhouse and now it’s shaping young minds.
3. This Dunkin’ Donuts

How fun is this cool Dunkin’ Donuts that used to be a car wash so the drive-thru is actually inside the building? So awesome.
4. This Grocery Store

It seems that old hockey stadiums are perfect to convert into grocery stores like this one in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Only in Canada, eh? Score!
5. This Store

If you ever wanted to see the inner workings of a bank vault, now you can if you visit this store that used to be a bank.
6. This Gym

Isn’t this the fanciest gym you’ve ever seen? That’s because it used to be a bank before. Who knew so many banks get converted into other things?
7. This Restaurant

That’s a peculiar picture, isn’t it? It turns out a local Mexican restaurant used to be a Chinese restaurant so they added sombreros to this mural. LOL.
8. This Fitness Studio

Speaking of getting in shape, hows this for a surprise? This super cool fitness studio used to be, you guessed it, a movie theatre.
9. This Supermarket

And speaking of old theaters, turns out this big supermarket in Venice used to be a theater back in the day. Just check out that gorgeous ceiling.
10. This Apartment

This person’s house used to be a police station and their bathroom is an old jail cell with the original window still in place. Wow, slightly creepy.
11. This College

What happens when a college buys a shopping mall? Well, obviously they convert it into a great learning space for their students. Such a great fit.
12. This University

Talking about interesting graffiti right? This building used to be a courthouse. The suspects used their lighters to leave a message on the holding cell ceiling. Whoa!
13. This Walgreens

If you can believe it, this Walgreens in Chicago used to be a bank, and now it has a vitamin vault. Say what? That is the coolest.
I think it’s so great to see old places that are no longer in use turned into new and exciting spaces while keeping some of the old features.
Agreed?
