I am insanely lucky. I was about 19 when Facebook became available to the general public, which means I juuust missed the introduction of social media and my teenage years were not immortalized on the internet.
Before that, I spent most of my time uploading pictures and scrolling through the now defunct MySpace. Remember MySpace? Good, neither does anyone else.
These people weren’t so lucky, however. The good news is that they shared these photos willingly with the understanding that they’re ridiculous, so I’m not a total jerk for stating the obvious. Here are 16 people who probably wish cameras were never invented.
1. Unfortunately, social K’NEXions weren’t common for our armored friend here.
The good news is that when you don’t have a ton of friends, you have all the time in the world to focus on upgrading from a mere mortal into a bionic villain with sick goggles.
2. Isn’t this one of the dudes from B44?
Or, wait… “Before 4”? “Bee Four 4”? B44 would make the most sense, I guess, since it’s easy to remember, but if it was “Before 4,” then that would make sense since there were three members in the band. Is it both? All of them? I need an adult.
4. I wonder which My Chemical Romance song played when you clicked on their MySpace pages?
Ahh, the 2000s. The eyeliner industry was booming and every single person between 14 and 23 knew HTML. What a time to be alive.
5. Guy Fieri, the early years.
Did you know Guy Fieri’s name is actually Guy Ferry ? Kind of irrelevant, but I was super shook when I found out, and now I bring it up at every available opportunity. Tell everyone you know.
6. This is my favorite photo in the series.
Why, you ask? Because this picture is actually my coworker and fellow humor writer, Dylan Clark-Moore , and he was in his 20s when it was taken. Dylan refused to comment when asked why he was wearing that sweater. He looks…relatively normal now.
7. GO, GO, LITTLE STRANGER.
I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but it just really feels like you’re doing it in this photo. And I support that.
8. *cue trumpets* This is actually John Cena as a child.
Okay, maybe not, but I only know that because I can see him in the photo.
9. To be fair, everything in the ’80s looked like a Halloween costume.
These two look like they just walked off the set of Beetlejuice . The ’80s left us with a lot of things, but let’s not pretend for a second that great hairstyles were one of them.
10. I’ve never seen anything so southern in my entire life.
Did she buy this dress from a life-size Barbie doll? It looks like the love child of a toilet seat cover and a fabric tissue box holder from your grandmother’s house.
11. Merry Christmas from Satan Claws and the gang!
Look at that smile! Santa is just a stand-up guy. I wonder if that girl asked for a puppy for Christmas — it looks like she’s been practicing with her friend there.
12. That poor girl’s mother.
She has probably be dreaming about her daughter’s prom since the day she gave birth to her, and now she has these photos to look back on. I wouldn’t be surprised if her date picked her up in a spaceship instead of a limo.
13. I used to tell boys in high school that when they got older, they’d be sorry they didn’t date me.
They weren’t — it was actually a very smart move on their part. Anybody who turned this girl down is probably feeling the burn, though.
