For about as long as we’ve existed, humans have been a pretty creative species. Sure, there may be less charitable ways to describe us, but we’ve managed to put together some pretty impressive works of art as we’ve stumbled through history.
But those who have noticed something different about their bodies due to genetics or an accident can attest that our bodies can also get creative under the right circumstances.
So these are the unusual ways they either expressed themselves or made it easier for us to do it.
When this woman burned herself with hot glue, her skin showed her the interesting way it made itself look good as new.

Those dots in the affected area weren’t there when this all started. Apparently, those are good signs that her melanin is filling back in.
This person cut themselves in such a way that the Nike logo is now on their skin.

They weren’t trying to achieve this, mind you. A wayward piece of glass happened to make contact with their skin in the perfect way to etch in this design.
In case the toe nails didn’t make this person stand out already, they’ve also made their leg hair work for them.

It’s hard to tell exactly how you’d go about stylizing it that way, but it’s likely that a lot of time and effort went into such a unique idea.
This girl managed to fall asleep in such a way that she left an imprint of her whole ear on her arm.

Not only must that have felt like a suction cup when she pulled it away, but I can’t picture a way of doing that without one or both arms falling completely asleep.
Since this guy’s hand was put into a mold back when he was four-months-old, he decided to compare it to his current hand shape.

Granted, this was complicated a little by the fact that his thumb swelled up due to recent skiing injury, but it’s still interesting to see.
Although it took some impressive barber skills to create this hairstyle, it’s also not one that just anybody can grow.

Hopefully, that fact can provide this man with some comfort during those awkward moments when he encounters a low ceiling.
This artist is drawing two portraits of similar quality at once, which wouldn’t be possible if they weren’t ambidextrous.

So while they likely worked hard to hone their skills to the level they’re at, they also had an unusual advantage right out of the gate.
Whether they’re burns or bruises, the markings on this man’s body show exactly what happened to him during a car accident.

Moreover, since it’s clear that these markings came from his seat belt, they also show how he survived in the first place.
Here we see the difference between a healthy retina and one affected by diabetic retinopathy.

This is a fancy way of saying that the one on the bottom was damaged due to complications from diabetes.
According to the Mayo Clinic this damage occurs after the blood vessels that supply the retinas are blocked. Diabetic retinopathy can eventually cause blindness.
Although what’s happening to this person’s leg is fascinating to look at, it’s likely extremely painful to experience.

That’s because we’re witnessing this person go through the mother of all leg cramps. The kind that might make us prefer the nightmare it interrupted if it woke us up at 3 am.
Although the body didn’t cause this marking on its own, the fact that it held onto the object that was responsible is pretty amazing too.

For those who don’t immediately recognize what happened here, this person was stabbed by a classmate’s pencil in fourth grade and a piece of graphite has been stuck in their hand ever since.
Everyone in this family has the same kind of shoulder dimple.

On one hand, it seems fairly uncommon to end up marrying someone with one and perfectly pass them on to the next generation.
On the other hand, it’s not like we often check that part of ourselves, so maybe it’s more common than it seems.
It’s a little hard to make out, but a burn affected the direction of this person’s handprint.

As it healed, they noticed that the lines in their hand seemed to run in a different direction, which resulted in what looks like either the shape of a bug or the shape of a fish near the center of the photo.
Although this person was definitely expressing themselves by undergoing these body modifications, it really demonstrates the elasticity of our skin.

It’s hard to keep track of which piercing is doing what, but it’s easy to forget that the human nose, mouth, and ears can all be shaped this way.
It would be nearly impossible to tell if I didn’t give it away, but one of these fingertips isn’t made of actual skin.

Whether you’re stumped at to which one it is or you think you know and want to confirm you answer, the prosthetic is actually on this person’s ring finger.
Many of us know that heterochromia means that people’s eyes are different colors, but it can also happen on a smaller scale than that.

This person, for instance, has partial heterochromia, which means that only a small section of their blue iris shows hazel coloration.
This man is taking his newly broken ankle about as well as anyone possibly could.

And if the way it bends is disturbing to you, then it’s pretty fortunate that it appears in a surprisingly small part of the picture.
This person has a skin condition called dermatographia, which means they can write on it like this with just light scratches.

And not to worry, according to the Mayo Clinic , they won’t have “Hi Reddit” written on their skin for the rest of their lives.
These markings and welts usually disappear after 30 minutes. Still, it’s unclear what causes dermatographia.
There’s a reason this finger stands out from the rest of the hand.

And that reason is likely why this person is undergoing thermal imaging. That finger is actually infected.
However, that apparently isn’t also the case for their head.
It doesn’t take much examination here to know that this person got burned, but the whole story tells us more about that burn’s effects.

They dropped an extremely hot rice cooker bowl on themselves, which means that their arm now features an imprint of that bowl’s serial number.
This person was born with four fingers and no thumb.

However, where their thumb would be is replaced by their index finger.
The human body is so fascinating.
This person is lit — literally.

They lit up their face from the inside out by lighting a flashgun in their mouth.
This is a great way to really freak out your friends!
This person’s amputated leg looks like a different part of the body.

If you thought it looked like a booty, you guessed right!
Not even 100 squats could make my butt look as good as his knee does.
This person got branded.

When this Reddit user’s airbags were deployed during an accident, the car’s logo was imprinted from the steering wheel into their hand.
Glad they’re okay!
No, this tattoo was not misaligned on purpose.

After this person had surgery to repair a broken arm, the doctors had to stitch it together in such a way that it turned his tattoo into borderline abstract art.
Like father like son!

This person’s dad had the tip of their index finger cut off when they were a child. Yet, their own index finger on their opposite hand is the same length.
This guy’s bruise actually matches his jersey.

How wild is that to get a bruise from baseball that actually looks like a comet? Only something that could happen from the cosmos!
