She Made A Request To Her Husband

The 36-year-old Redditor has been married to her 57-year-old spouse for 2 years and they each have a child from a previous relationship. The OP's 18-year-old son, who she describes as a model student, recently received an acceptance letter from his dream school. The only problem was that paying college fees would be an issue due to financial constraints. The Reddit user was a single mom until she tied the knot with her current spouse and does not have the funds to pay for her son to go to college.

While she doesn't have enough money saved to pay for her son's college education, she recalled that her husband had been collecting funds for his 17-year-old daughter's college fund since she was born. This led her to ask her spouse if they could use his daughter's funds, which is enough to pay for all four years of her son's college education, to pay for his fees instead of hers.

Although her spouse was adamant in saying no at first, he gave in a little after his wife reasoned that his daughter was not academically inclined and had said she would be attending the community college for the first two years. She continued that since her stepdaughter was a junior, they had a year to build up another college fund for her. The husband eventually decided to leave the decision in the hands of his daughter as it was her money.

However, his discussion with his daughter did not go well as she found it unfair for her college funds to be diverted to pay her stepbrother's college fees. The argument ended with the daughter accusing her father of cheating on her mother, though the Redditor claims it is untrue. According to her, she and her spouse had begun dating seven months after his divorce from his ex-wife.

The confrontation earned the wife a lot of criticism and name-calling from her husband's ex-wife and her relatives who had heard about the issue. While her husband was upset by his daughter's words and actions, the wife's relatives believe she did the right thing and her son deserves the money. The woman's stance and that of her relatives also earned her criticism from other Reddit users as they scold her for feeling entitled to money that isn't hers.
