On Thursday, Russia's invasion and full-scale military air missile attack on Ukraine began, coming from the North, East, and South. Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the country on Friday morning, revealing that 137 lives were lost and hundreds more injured. 50,000 civilians have fled, while others seek safety and shelter.
On the ground in Ukraine is Mystic River actor, Sean Penn, filming a documentary about the invasion.
The invasion opened with air missile attacks on Ukrainian military facilities.
On early Friday morning, explosions hit Kyiv, and Russian forces took the city of Sumy in north-eastern Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy subsequently called for NATO's defense and tougher sanctions against Russia.
As the devastating events continue to unfold, news has also surfaced that Mystic River actor, Sean Penn, is on the ground in Ukraine filming a documentary about the invasion.
“The director specially came to Kyiv to record all the events that are currently happening in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country,” the translated statement reads.
The statement points out that Penn's efforts during this ordeal have shown more bravery than that of some Western politicians.
It continues, stating that the more genuine supporters Ukraine has, the faster they can put an end to the Russian invasion.
Penn has a history of supporting anti-war and humanitarian operations over the years. In 2020, he was a part of a Discovery Plus documentary called Citizen Penn that detailed his contribution to the non-profit organization Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE).
