While this was also often true of hotels, you never really know what kind of Airbnb you're going to end up in until you get there.
Sure, it's true that much like hotels, Airbnb listings tend to have a lot of reviews. But even assuming they're all genuine, there's no guarantee that we're going to like what the majority of our fellow users do.
After all, it's possible for Airbnbs that some would describe as "nightmares" to gain five-star ratings and it's sometimes hard to get a listing's bizarre location or policies across in a review.
But of course, there's a flip side to that coin. Sometimes it's not the Airbnb host who boggles our minds, but rather the guest.
