Alright The Ranch fans, saddle up and get ready for some sweet behind-the-scenes knowledge!
This way, the next time you’re at a marathon for The Ranch , you can impress all your friends!
1. That ’70s Reunion
Well, we all knew this was coming. Of course, the leads of the show Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson , have been on a show together before.
Can you guess which one?
2. More ’70s Appearances
Danny and Ashton aren’t the only That’s 70s Show alumni who have appeared on the show.
Wilmer Valderrama, who played Fez, made a guest appearance as an old farmhand.
Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, who play Mr. and Mrs. Forman, also make appearances.
3. No Laugh Track
It’s hard to believe in this day and age, but The Ranch’s laughter doesn’t come from a laugh track.
It’s actually a live studio audience , just like they did in the old days.
4. The Episode Names
The names of the episodes in sitcoms are usually pretty silly, but the ones in The Ranch pay homage to their country roots.
Every episode is a song from Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, and Kenny Chesney.
5. No Seasons
Just in case you hadn’t noticed when picking episodes on Netflix, The Ranch isn’t divided into seasons.
Instead, they opted to divide the series into Parts . Part 7 has dropped and Part 8 should be in 2020.
6. The Opening Credits
In the opening credits, amongst American flags and other farm things, there are pictures of the Bennett family throughout their lives.
The pictures are actually of the actors in various movies throughout their careers.
7. The Reason Debra Winger Joined
The three-time Oscar nominee Debra Winger joined The Ranch for one of the simplest reasons out there.
Apparently, she only joined the series because she “hadn’t done a sitcom before”.
8. ‘Two And Half Men’ Reunion
That’s ’70s Show isn’t the only show getting a reunion here.
Jon Cryer, who played Ashton Kutcher’s friend/roommate in Two And A Half Men , plays a loan officer in The Ranch .
9. The Reason Sam Elliot Was Cast
The reason this big time star was cast is pretty funny .
As Ashton Kutcher put it: “You know the feeling that no matter how old your dad gets, he can always whip your a*s? Sam is that guy.”
10. The Same Joke
Not only does That’s 70s Show and The Ranch share some actors, they share a joke as well.
One time Kelso gets his hand stuck in a vase and long story short the punchline is: I’m making a very obscene gesture right now, you just can’t see it!
The Same Joke (CONT)
Well, the same thing happens pretty much verbatim in The Ranch .
But this time, instead of having his hand in a vase, Ashton Kutcher has his hand in a cow.
11. The Reason It’s Set In Small Town America
There’s a reason The Ranch is set on a ranch; because Ashton Kutcher wanted to tap into an untapped market.
Specifically, the people in flyover country, aka small town America .
The Reason It’s Set In Small Town America (CONT)
He relates the Ranch’s success to the success of another show also set in small-town America:
“It’s the middle of the country, the heartland … yet nobody makes content for them. I don’t think the success of Duck Dynasty was an accident. I think that show was successful because it spoke to a specific audience that can relate to that life.”
12. The Buffalo’s Hats
Just in case you haven’t noticed, there’s a full-sized Buffalo in the background of Maggie’s bar.
Just in case you doubly haven’t noticed, the Buffalo changes it’s headwear every episode.
