One of the most talked-about films of 2019 was Martin Scorcese’s The Irishman . This slow-burn semi biopic boasts a cast comprised of the greatest living actors in Hollywood.
But as iconic as it may be, it is in no way perfect. There are tons of tiny mistakes that managed to slip by. Have a look and check out these 10+ mistakes in The Irishman fans didn’t notice.
Did you notice the white van?
This happens toward the end of the movie, as Frank is making his way to the Hoffa hit.
As he’s driving up the street, you’ll see a large 2018 white Mercedes van just parked in the driveway.
We all scream for ice cream!
Watch Jimmy’s bowl of ice cream as Tony Pro sits down to have a conversation. With each cut of the camera, the amount in the bowl changes.
It’s got to make continuity difficult when your set pieces keep melting!
De Niro’s kicks miss by a mile.
This is a blatant example of just poor choreography and even worse cinematography if I’m being blunt.
Take a look as Frank lays down the beating at the grocery store. He throws two kicks that don’t come anywhere close to landing.
Frank’s nurse needs to check her stethoscope.
At the end of the movie, when Frank is being checked over by his nurse, she has her stethoscope backward.
The earbuds should be pointing forward, otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to hear a thing.

Frank’s ring keeps on switching hands.
Not only does it seem to change hands but it moves fingers as well! What reason would Frank have for continually switching? It just doesn’t add up.
I mean, look at that thing — it’s humungous!
Glass cockpits weren’t around back then.
Unless you fancy yourself an aviation expert, this next mistake likely flew right over your head.
The plane that Frank takes to do the hit on Jimmy has a glass cockpit , which didn’t become the industry norm until 1982.
The World Trade Center didn’t exist.
Jimmy Hoffa was released from prison in real life (and in the film) in 1971. But if you look at the media footage, you’ll notice a very clear shot of the Twin Towers .
Which weren’t completed until 1973.
Actually, Allen Dorfman wasn’t shot in 1979.
This occurs right around the one-hour mark in the film. Dorfman was helping the mob through his insurance deals but he wasn’t killed until January 20th, 1983 .
Which to me seems sloppy on Scorcese’s part. It’s literally the first thing that comes up when you Google his name.
Why are there license plates on the front of the cars?
This is Philadelphia, which happens to be located in the state of Pennsylvania.
Fun fact: Pennsylvania is one of nineteen states that do not require a front license plate on vehicles.
They got Joe Gallo’s birthday wrong.
Yet again, kind of another obvious mistake that seems to have slipped through the cracks. As Frank watches the news, the reporter mentions that it was his 47th birthday.
In actuality, it was his 43rd!
How did Frank know about I-275?
In the film’s opening scene, there’s a shot of Frank plotting his course from Pennsylvania to Detroit. If you look at the map, you’ll see it highlights interstate 275.
This is interesting, considering that section of the highway hadn’t even been built yet.
Something in the scrapyard isn’t quite right.
During the scene where Dorfman drives his car to the scrapyard, take a look at the equipment in the background. Doesn’t look a little out of place?
That’s because it’s all modern-day equipment!
I’ll trade you my lemonade for your cigarette?
Watch carefully as Frank and Russ are talking in the hotel pool. You should notice a woman with a lit cigarette in her hand.
But then a cut scene later, and the cigarette is now a lemonade! It cuts back and the woman once again has her smoke. Spooky.
