Bring it On helped kick-start the millennium. It sought to tell a story centered around strong, female protagonists while simultaneously making a strong statement about diversity, cultural appropriation, and racial divides.
The film manages to accomplish a lot but not without the occasional stumble along the way. Have a look and check out these 10+ mistakes from Bring it On fans didn’t notice.
Keep your composure, Clovers!
Watch closely during the very first Clovers’ performance. About a minute or so into their routine, you can clearly see two cheerleaders run right into one another.
I feel for them because that had to hurt!
Does Cliff actually have a tattoo?
If you look closely throughout the movie, you’ll notice that Cliff appears to have a Roman Numeral tattooed on his left arm. But during the scene where he walks in on Missy practicing her routine in the living room, the tattoo looks completely faded.
Then, during the final Toros’ routine, his tattoo looks fresh once again.
What time is it, Sparky?
Without a doubt, the best part of Bring it On is the insane cheerleading choreographer, Sparky Polastri.
If you pay close attention to the clock as he’s teaching the team their new routine, you’ll see that the time seems to keep changing.
Cliff clearly isn’t playing the guitar.
While Cliff may be doing an excellent job of channeling Pete Townshend during this scene, he’s most definitely not playing the guitar.
His hand placement on the neck is wrong, his pick patterns don’t align — at one point he even breaks his fall with his hand! Yet the music keeps on playing.
When did Torrance and Missy have time to change?
When Torrance and Les pick Missy up on their way to the game, both of the girls have their cropped short-sleeved uniforms on.
But once they arrive at the field, all of the girls are now somehow wearing the long-sleeved uniforms?
Something is not right with Missy’s smudge marks.
Do you remember when Missy (Eliza Dushku) licked her middle finger and smudges her fake tattoo?
Later on, when Torrance shows up at Missy’s house, you can see that the smudge marks have changed direction!
Kasey’s mouth isn’t moving.
Pay attention during the scene where Kasey is popping her pimples in the mirror ( I know, gross right?).
In the background, you can hear Darcy complain and Kasey responds “okay,” even though her mouth doesn’t actually move!
No piercings allowed!
Both the Clovers and the Toros seem to break a lot of rules. For one thing, in an official cheerleading competition, body jewelry isn’t permitted.
Earrings, or piercings of any kind for that matter, need to be taped or removed.
Where’s the coach?
This is a high school team, after all. But neither the Toros nor the Clovers, seem to have any faculty supervision.
It’s perhaps the most egregious error the film makes. Every team, at every level, has a coach.
The Toros would have been disqualified.
I feel for the Toros, they worked so hard! Luckily for them, the judges must not have been paying too close attention to their final performance.
Roughly one minute into the routine, you can see a cheerleader drop in the background.
Put your head on my shoulder…
Isn’t Aaron just the worst? Watch as he tells Torrance that she “isn’t Captain material.” When he first hugs her, their cheeks are touching.
But then as soon as the camera cuts, Aaron’s head somehow changes positions and ends up resting on Torrance’s shoulder?
Missy actually didn’t do what was asked of her.
When Missy is being put to the test, Whitney tells her to do a front-handspring, step-out into a tumbling pass.
If you watch closely, Missy only does a cartwheel and not the handspring.
How is Torrance’s brother playing video games?
Take a close look at the Playstation Torrance’s younger brother, Justin, is playing. When she yanks the controller out of the slot, the disc cover pops open.
Gaze inside and you’ll see that there’s no game in the system!
Why are co-ed and all-girls teams competing against one another?
Cheerleading is just like any other sport: men and women do not compete against one another.
Co-ed teams are judged against other co-eds. In the same way that all-girl squads only compete against other all-girl teams.
What happened to Torrance’s pen?
This is a pretty sloppy piece of editing if I do say so myself. Watch when Torrance is on the phone, looking for something to write with.
The pen in her hand changes to a crayon in between but-scenes!
