You probably know John Stamos best for his role in the ’90s iconic family sitcom, Full House .
But that is really only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his acting resume! He has also appeared in You , General Hospital , Glee , ER , and more.
But there is so much more that we did not know about him!
1. Not only is he an actor, but he is also a musician.
While he has famously performed numerous times alongside The Beach Boys, John has also released a ton of music of his own.
In 1994 he released an independent project called Shades of Blue , that featured Lanny Cordola, Gary Griffin, Sandra Stephens, Tony Guerrero, and David Enos.
2. His first major acting gig may have been on *General Hospital*. But his first-ever job was at his family’s restaurant.
Like many teenagers, John’s first job was flipping burgers.
His father owned the restaurant located in Orange County .
3. He was a “dorky kid”.
“I know everybody says this, but in high school I really was the dorky kid,” he told Orange Coast .
“I was into magic and theme parks. I was very innocent. When a lot of kids my age were going out drinking on Friday and Saturday nights, I was at Disneyland, going on the rides and listening to the bands.
4. Whenever he isn’t working on big, well-known productions, he’s dabbling in theater instead.
“Sometimes it’s a super-high-profile show like ER , or Glee , or a Super Bowl commercial. And then I’ll kind of go quiet, which means I’m working in theater—I’ve done four or five Broadway shows—or I’m producing,” he told Orange Coast .
5. He keeps up with American politics.
When asked by Entertainment Tonight whether he considers himself to be a political person, he replied:
“I try to keep up with politics so I can be part of society and a good American to decide who I want to vote for, but I’ve always been very quiet about it.”
“I’ll never forget my father saying, ‘Never talk about politics or religion,'” he added.
“And I never have. Sometimes I feel that it can make me look a little wishy-washy or not as smart or strong in the press, but I get tired of so many actors pushing their opinions down people’s throats. It’s a fine line.”
6. He was in four episodes of *Glee*.
“I made great friends. I had a great time,” he told the Daily Actor .
“It was challenging too, you know, to dip in again like being put on a show that’s up and running and to be around such talented people. You really have to rise to the occasion.”
7. He has a lot of respect for daytime soap operas.
“Well, you know, if it wasn’t for General Hospital I wouldn’t be talking to you on this phone right now. I give a lot of credit to that show,” he said in a Q&A with Daily Actor .
“It was acting 101. I mean you really had to come and bring a lot of different emotions and a lot of, you know, a lot fast, you know, which really prepared me for television.”
“But and I think it’s really sad obviously, you know, for everything that it did for me,” he added.
“The training , the launch that it gave me. It’s sad to think that there’s not some other guys out there like me that’s going to get a shot on a soap opera, you know?”
8. He proposed to his wife, Caitlin McHugh, at her favorite spot in the world: Disneyland.
He popped the question back in 2017.
“He put together some of the most romantic moments from Disney and Pixar animation [in a video],” Good Morning America reported at the time. “And then he ended it with Sebastian from The Little Mermaid saying, ‘Just ask the girl’ to John.”
9. Because he didn’t meet his wife until later in his life, he was worried that he would never have children.
“It’s just taken me a lot longer than I anticipated,” he told Good Housekeeping .
“It would be a tragedy if I didn’t have children and I finally found the right woman — the perfect woman.”
10. He and Caitlin started their own jewelry line.
In the spring of 2018, Caitlin and John started up their own jewelry line called St. Amos Jewelry .
While the pieces are stunning, the real kicker is that all of the proceeds go to a non-profit organization called Child Help.
11. He is still close friends with Lori Loughlin.
“I’ll tell you one thing that has been strange is: Honestly I can’t figure it out. It doesn’t make sense. I talked to her the morning everything hit. I just can’t process it still,” he told GQ of Lori’s recent run-in with the law.
“Whatever happened,” he says, “I’m pretty sure that the punishment is not equal to the crime, if there was a crime.”
12. His *Full House* co-star, Jodie Sweetin, helped him get sober.
After presenting an award to Jodie last year for her memoir, he explained to the audience that Jodie is the reason he was able to get sober.
He said that about four years ago, he hit “rock bottom.” and “It took me a long time, a long time disappointing everyone who cared about me, culminating in a terrible DUI where I could have killed somebody. “
“When I finally humbled myself to ask for your help, I realized that the perky little blabbermouth had become the master of wisdom and was right by my side during some of the most difficult days of my life,” he added.
“Thank god, my wife and my new son will only know me as a sober husband and father. This is Jodie’s legacy in my life .”
13. Before landing his iconic role as “Uncle Jesse” on the ’90s classic sitcom, *Full House*, John was a daytime television star.
He played the part of “Blackie Parris” in the ABC soap opera General Hospital — a performance that he eventually won an Emmy nomination for.
