These are the documentaries you need to watch people.
Right now! Put down what you’re doing and feast your eyes on these works of non-fiction. Wait! Finish the article first.
Today we’re talking Netflix Docs.

These are the ones that are going to educate you, entertain you and most of all: keep you popular around the water cooler.
Because there’s no one more interesting than someone who exclusively watches documentaries.
1. ’20 Feet from Stardom’.

Here’s a group of people you probably haven’t thought much about: backup singers.
Well, this documentary tells their story as well as all the ups and downs that come with being in the background.
2. ‘Abducted in Plain Sight’.

Do you want something totally nuts for your documentary? Try this film out. It’s a tale of two abductions.
The craziest part: the same person was abducted twice by the exact same abductor.
3. ‘Five Came Back’.

This is a view of World War Two you might not have considered.
It’s through the lens of five directors, John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens, who all helped the war effort.
4. ’13th’.

It’s a story about the 13th Amendment and the mass incarcerations of African Americans that followed it’s passage.
Just so you know, the 13th Amendment is:
“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction”
5. ‘Blue Planet II’.

There’s nothing better than a nature documentary in my opinion.
I’m mostly impressed by how close the cameramen and women get to these magnificent creatures.
6. ‘Ken Burns’: The Vietnam War’.

I love this documentary. I’m a sucker for history, especially the 20th century, so this documentary really speaks to me.
For all the war enthusiasts out there, this is the documentary for you.
7. ‘Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes’.

This documentary is truly chilling.
Not only do you have to hear about the crimes of one of America’s most notorious killers, but you get to hear his voice as well.
8. ‘Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond’.

If you love Jim Carrey’s craziness, or if you loved Andy Kaufman’s craziness, then this is the movie for you.
While the shoot for Man On The Moon looked difficult, it’s awesome to watch.
9. ‘Audrie & Daisy’.

Let me warn you right now, this documentary is not a light affair.
It’s about two high school students who were sexually assaulted, and there’s a little suicide sprinkled in there for good measure.
10. ‘De Palma’.

If you love movies, then you’ll really like this documentary.
It’s about filmmaker Brian De Palma, the man behind (at least his biggest film imo) Scarface . So if you like that masterpiece, then say hello to this little doc.
11. ‘They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead’.

If you love Orson Welles, then you’ll love this documentary about the making of his lost film: _ The Other Side of the Wind_.
You’ll see the turmoil they went through: reshoot, after reshoot, after reshoot.
12. ‘Senna’.

Are you like Ricky Bobby? Do you like to go fast?
Well, then you’ll love this story of Formula One racer Ayrton Senna. All his great victories and his shocking death are covered in this doc.
13. ‘Knock Down The House’.

We all know about the newest, freshest face in Washington: Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez. She’s so fresh. So face.
This documentary concerns her, so if you’re a fan of her scathing tweets then you should check this doc out.
Do you have any recommendations?
Listen, you shouldn’t just take my word as law, people. Maybe talk to your fellow Diply readers, or leave a comment saying which is the best documentary on Netflix.
We all need help finding stuff to watch.
