While we may be obsessed with many celebs, there is still so much we don’t know about them.
Their backgrounds, for instance, can sometimes be a huge mystery. For instance, did you know that Halsey is biracial? Or Pete Wentz?

1. H.E.R.
The singer is of black and Filipino heritage. Over the years, she’s found appreciation for both of her cultures.
“I represent young black women, and I’m proud of that,” she told WWD , adding that she loves soul food.
But her Filipino heritage is equally as important.
She said that she grew up in a household where her grandparents also lived.
They were always cooking Filipino dishes and she would have to always take her shoes off at the door.
2. Halsey
The “Bad at Love” singer is of Italian, Hungarian, Irish, and African-American descent.
She’s even spoken out about some of the struggles she faces being biracial, much to the dismay of some people.
3. Aubrey Plaza
The Parks and Recreation actress was born to a white mother and Puerto Rican father.
“A lot of people don’t assume I’m Puerto Rican because I’m fair skinned,” she told Cosmopolitan . “But I feel very connected to that side of my family.”
4. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
After the internet had a debate on what nationality he is, he set the record straight .
“Glad I came across this and I’ll give you guys some context & truth. I identify as exactly what I am – both. Equally proud. Black/Samoan.”
5. Naomi Scott
The Aladdin actress is of Gujarati Indian and English heritage. Being biracial came with its difficulties growing up.
“There were moments growing up where you’re like, ‘Oh, I don’t really feel Indian enough,'” she told Teen Vogue . But thankfully, she’s come to a place of acceptance within herself.
6. Chrissy Teigen
The star is proud to be of Thai and Norwegian heritage.
One way she shows off her culture is by sharing all of her delicious Thai recipes on social media and in her two Cravings cookbooks.
7. Danny Pudi
When you step into the actor’s home, you’ll find lots of his Polish heritage. “Inside my home, I’m very Polish,” he told the Center for Asian American Media .
But he’s also proud to embrace his Indian heritage in public.
8. Karen O
While she was bullied in school for being different — she’s of Korean and Polish heritage — she called it a ” brutal but also pivotal ” experience.
It was one that actually helped her get into rock ‘n’ roll.
9. Chanel Iman
The model is of Iman is of black and Korean heritage. As such, she’s been an advocate to stop racism in the fashion industry.
“I think that everyone should be equal; it shouldn’t be about color,” she told The Edit .
10. Megan Markle
In an essay for Elle , the royal proudly wrote that she’s “half black and half white” (her mother is black, her father is Caucasian).
Sadly, this has caused Meghan some discrimination since being thrust into the royal spotlight.
But, like the strong woman she is, she’s learned to embrace who she is, no matter what.
“To say who I am, to share where I’m from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman.”
11. Zayn Malik
He’s one of the most beautiful men in Hollywood, thanks to his gorgeous features brought to him by his English and Pakistani heritage.
“This is who I am, this is where I’ve come from,” he told The Evening Standard about embracing this.
12. Henry Golding
The Crazy Rich Asian star is of English and Malaysian heritage.
In 2018, he shared with Bustle that starring in the Asian-driven movie actually helped him embrace his bicultural self-identity. This came after feeling like the odd man out growing up.
“We had all been through our trials and tribulations of being somewhat Asian in different countries other than Asia,” he said.
“But we all came for this one cause — this movie — and just being together with people who had the same kind of struggles as [I] did… it just brought so much more meaning to the film.”
13. Jessica Szohr
The Gossip Girl alum has gotten used to questions about her nationality.
“I’m Hungarian and a quarter Black, so I’m a mutt,” she told People when she made the publication’s “World’s Most Beautiful” list in 2010.
14. Nicole Richie
The Simple Life star is of Mexican and Creole African-American ancestry.
While she’s super proud to be mixed race, she has said that it takes a lot of work to do her hair. “I actually think I’m the best hairstylist on the planet,” she joked to Glamour .
15. Pete Wentz
The Fall Out Boy crooner would frequent Jamacia growing up since his mother was born there.
“I didn’t appreciate then that while Bob Marley and the Wailers are cool, it goes much deeper than that,” he told Altpress .
His black maternal grandfather, Arthur Winston Lewis, was also the U.S. Ambassador to Sierra Leone.
That’s not all. His great uncle is also the former U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell.
He’s got a lot of family members to make him proud of his heritage!
