There have been so many terrifying red carpet looks. Celebrities love to shock and awe, but sometimes they take things a little bit too far. Or sometimes, it’s completely intentional.
Either way, it’s all part of the territory of being famous , and we are here for it!

1. Whoopi Goldberg.
I’m getting very mother-of-the-bride/Pepto Bismol vibes with this look.
Forget the color for a second — that hat and the shoulder pads are what’s really throwing me off. This whole outfit is a no for me! Sorry, Whoopi. No one could really pull this off.
2. Kim Basinger.
Kim is gorgeous. But that does not excuse this dress!
Tbh, without that half-blazer thing going on, this gown might have actually been really nice. Keywords being, “might have.” Better luck next time there, Kimmy. Nice effort though.
3. Tyra Banks.
If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought that this was Tyra Banks’ prom dress that she decided to repurpose as a red carpet look.
I’m amazed that she hasn’t been called out for this, considering all the flack she gave the models on ANTM .
4. Jennifer Hudson.
To be fair, 2007 was not a great year for fashion. In fact, most of the early 2000s were a strange time for style. So it isn’t entirely Jennifer’s fault! She was just going along with the trends.
That being said, I cannot deal with that weird little short-sleeved jacket she’s wearing on top of her dress.
5. Oprah.
While this may have been a staple look back in 1986, this definitely wouldn’t go down very well today.
It’s not the worst thing on this list by FAR, but the fur tail that she has with faces is a little too awkward for me.
6. Lizzy Gardiner.
Well, now I’ve seen everything! A dress made up of American Express credit cards?
Whose idea was this? I would genuinely love to know what the story is behind this look and why Lizzy thought it was the right one for her to wear on the red carpet in 1995.
7. Melanie Griffith.
That spiky hair sure is something.
It’s definitely a look that Griffith probably got away with back in the 1980s, but if anyone took it on the carpet today, then it would be a mistake. People would rip them apart on social media.
8. Lara Flynn Boyle.
This one could very easily pass as a Halloween costume. Why did she decide it was a good fit for a red carpet? We may never know.
It sure was entertaining though! I’m sure tons of people thought she was going to do a routine right then and there.
9. Faith Hill.
Faith Hill has had a ton of great red carpet looks. Unfortunately, this was not one of them, but she’s made up for it.
She wore this rainbow-cake-esque gown to the 74th annual Academy Awards, and I’ve been having nightmares about it ever since.
10. Calista Flockhart.
Calista has worn some stunning, iconic gowns and outfits for the paparazzi in the past. But this one was by far her biggest misstep.
It is reminiscent of something I would have worn when I was eight years old.
11. Lil Kim.
Okay, this dress that Lil Kim wore in 2019 is interesting, but actually not the most awkward of dresses on here.
Fans actually tweeted about this, calling her look “horrifying” — which is pretty harsh. But it really drives the point home!
12. Uma Thurman.
There is a lot to unpack here. Not only is the dress obviously too big on her, but there also seems to be bits and pieces of a vest involved here? A random blue belt?
Not really sure what to make of this one. But it certainly makes the list!
13. Cameron Diaz.
I love Cameron Diaz so much, so this one hurts me to say.
But I gotta know why on earth she thought it was a good idea to wear an oversize kimono-inspired gown with what looks like dress pants on underneath?
14. Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga has been known to wear some weird stuff. I could name several times she would have made this list.
But for now, I’m going to focus on the meat dress because, I mean, it’s a dress…made of meat.
15. Billie Eilish
To be fair, it’s not that this isn’t a cool look. And if anyone can pull it off, it is definitely Billie, but it’s the lack of us getting to see her beautiful face!
It just also seems very dressed down for a red carpet.
16. Rihanna
Rihanna is obviously stunning, and for the most part, her entire wardrobe is on POINT.
But this makes her look a little like a shower loofah. A very classy version, but a shower loofah nonetheless.
I’d still trade it all to look like her though, tbh.
17. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is basically known for having wild outfits, and so she is on this list again. In fact, we’re sure we could create an entire list of her wild looks!
This one is definitely giving me major bird vibes! Also, her neck doesn’t look like it gets much movement.
18. Heidi Klum
Okay, this dress isn’t the worst, and obviously Heidi Klum could look gorgeous in a trash bag.
But that huge white part that looks like a wing, coming out where her arm is, is a little much for an otherwise very classy look.
19. Halle Bailey and Chloe Bailey
Honestly, out of the entire list, these are probably the nicest ones.
My only quip with the dress on the left that Halle is wearing, is that it makes her look a little like Olaf from Frozen . If those ruffles weren’t there, I’d love it.
20. Poppy
There is just so much going on with this look, I don’t even know where to start.
Why are you wearing a mask? Is it a statement about a larger issue that I’m not seeing? Someone explain it to me.
21. Edith Bowman
Listen, some people like dressing more conservatively, and more power to them for that.
But this otherwise very pretty dress is kind of off-putting with that black vest and the huge flowers right in the center. Don’t you agree?
22. Rita Ora
Miss Rita is GORGEOUS.
So we’re not too sure why she went for this dress that, again, gives off some weird bird vibes. Anyone else seeing that? There’s just so much going on, and not in a good way.
23. Rosalia
Okay, so here’s the thing.
This is actually AWESOME if it weren’t for the oversized shoulders and the wide legs! It looks a little too baggy and hides her amazing form. Unless…that’s what she was going for…
