Sometimes, Hollywood has some weird casting choices. From whitewashing to transphobic casting, there have been tons of bad decisions made in Hollywood.
This includes age differences between characters. Sometimes it is way too much between love interests, and others because it’s too little when it comes to a family member!
1. Amy Poehler and Rachel McAdams

Age Gap: 7 Years
Relationship: Mother (Poehler) and Daughter (McAdams)
These two were great together in Mean Girls . And even though Poehler was supposed to be McAdams’ mom, the age between the two of them isn’t that much. She must have had Regina when she was 7.
2. Moaning Myrtle

Age Gap: Moaning Myrtle was supposed to be 14, but Shirley Henderson was 35 years old when she started playing her.
That’s right ! The actress behind the wailing, teenage Harry Potter ghost was 35! Which is weird when you consider she was hitting on Harry.
3. Emma Stone and Colin Firth

Age Gap: 28 years
Relationship: Lovers
Poor Emma Stone . One moment you’re winning an Oscar, the next you’re being forced to kiss men almost 30 years your senior in movies like Magic in the Moonlight .
Ah, the life of an actress.
4. Sean Connery and Harrison Ford

Age Gap: 12 Years
Relationship: Father (Connery) and Son (Ford)
Oh, believe it, Indiana Jones fans. When he went on his last crusade with his father , the two of them were only 12 years apart!
5. Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie

Age Gap: 1 year
Relationship: Mother (Jolie) and Son (Farrell)
Besides a ridiculous blonde wig in Alexander , there was also a ridiculous age gap between two actors who were supposed to be mother and son.
6. Sally Field and Tom Hanks

Age Gap: 9 years
Here’s the joke of it all, folks.
We all know that Tom Hanks and Sally Field played son and mother respectively in the classic film, Forrest Gump .
Just a couple of years before, the two had played love interests in the movie ‘Punchline!’

Well folks, you gotta say, that’s gotta be one of the most awkward meetups on set ever.
7. Jennifer Lopez and Constance Marie

Age Gap: 4 years
Relationship: Mother (Marie) and Daughter (Lopez)
Strange how they tend to make mothers and daughters almost the same age in a lot of movies and TV.
It’s probably so everyone looks young.

To their credit, both Lopez and Marie pull off a pretty decent young person look.
And the ruse is good as well. I never would have guessed they’d be so close in age.
8. Orlando Bloom and Lee Pace

Age Gap: 2 years
Relationship: Father (Pace) and Son (Bloom)
Believe it or not, but when they shot The Hobbit series, it seems they couldn’t get an actor older than Orlando Bloom to play his dad.
So they got Lee Pace, and to be fair, it definitely worked out.

So what if the son is somehow older than the father by two years, who cares?
I’m sure it has something to do with being Elves.
9. Rebecca Toolan and David Duchovny

Age Gap: 1 year
Relationship: Son (Duchovny) and Mother (Toolan)
These two actors played the Mulders on X-Files . With only a one year age difference between them, it’s kind of disturbing when you think about it.
10. Cher and Meryl Streep

Age Gap: 3 years
Relationship: Mother (Cher) and Daughter (Streep)
Now that you ask , it was a little weird that Cher had to play Meryl Streep’s mom in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again .
Then again, she had to get that cameo in somehow.
11. Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly

Age Gap: 21 years
Relationship: Lovers
And now we get to the gross side of this story.
We’ve been having fun with moms and whatnot, but did you know that Reynolds was 19 when she got the part in Singing In The Rain ? Kelly was 40!
12. Justin Weaver and Eva Amurri Martino

Age Gap: Approx 8 years
Relationship: Lovers/Teacher and Student
You know all those stories you hear in the news about creepy teachers having sex with their students? Well, the whole beginning of That’s My Boy is one of those…
And it’s played off as a joke.

The 12-year-old Justin Weaver is seduced by his teacher and the two of them start a sexual relationship, even having a child together.
This is definitely not something people should be watching.
13. Tom Hanks And Elizabeth Perkins

Age Gap: 0
Relationship: Lovers
Yes, the two actors are the same age in real life but the reason this couple makes us uncomfortable is because there is an age gap in the movie between the two of them that makes us cringe!
In the movie, Tom Hanks’ character, Josh, is just a 13-year-old boy in a man’s body.

It’s yet another “older woman gets with a boy that’s way too young for her” type scenario.
For the majority of the movie, Susan (Elizabeth Perkins) doesn’t know about this!

She actually sleeps with him, which… is that a crime? Does the criminal code cover magic?
It’s just weird, people.
14. Will Smith and Margot Robbie

Age Gap: 21 Years
Relationship: Lovers
To his credit, Will Smith doesn’t look like he’s 21 years older than his Focus co-star Margot Robbie. Seriously, the actor has aged well.
He was 46 when this movie came out!
15. Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Keira Knightley

Age Gap: 5 Years
Relationship: None
Love Actually featured one of the strangest age dynamics on this list.
Despite playing totally different characters in this movie, Keira Knightley was 18 when they shot…
And Thomas Brodie-Sangster was 13.

Yes! The two of them only shared a 5 year age gap, yet Thomas was treated as a child and Keira Knightley was treated much more maturely.
Obviously, it’s because Sangster looks like a child, but still!
16. Nicole Kidman and Cameron Bright

Age Gap: 24 years
Relationship: Lovers (kind of?)
The movie Birth was one that made audiences feel pretty darn uncomfortable .
And why was that, you ask?
Nicole Kidman’s character was just convinced the 10-year-old Cameron Bright was the reincarnated version of her dead husband.

And the two shared a kiss.
That’s right, Nicole Kidman kissed a ten-year-old.
17. Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray

Age Gap: 34 years
Relationship: Lovers
Whether or not you liked Lost In Translation , you have to admit that the relationship between Murray and Johnsson was a bunch of Hollywood hooey.
Mostly because Murray was 51 at the time and ScarJo was only 17.

And the two shared a kiss on screen! Man, Hollywood used to be so weird.
Hopefully, going forward, Hollywood moves past all of this.
18. Jean Reno and Natalie Portman

Age Gap: 36 years
Relationship: Friends (But it gets weird)
This movie got a lot of hate for what it did to Natalie Portman.
During ‘Leon The Professional,’ a 12-year-old girl shacks up with a middle-aged hitman.

She wants him to help her take revenge on the DEA agent who killed her family…
Things start out okay, until she starts dressing as Madonna and telling people that this older man is her lover.

Jeez, director Luc Besson! Are you trying to make us feel uncomfortable, you weirdo?
19. Woody Allen and Mira Sorvino

Age Gap: 32 Years
Relationship: Lovers
In fact, Woody Allen was more than twice Mira Sorvino’s age when they filmed Mighty Aphrodite . Makes you think about all the allegations that have come up against him…
20. Scarlett Johansson and Billy Bob Thorton

Age Gap: 30 Years
Relationship: Blackmailer and Blackmail Victim
ScarJo is no stranger to the weird age differences in movies .
In The Man Who Wasn’t There she was a 16-year-old trying to seduce and blackmail a 46-year-old Billy Bob Thorton. Yikes.
21. Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort

Age Gap: 52 Years
Relationship: Lovers
There is literally, nothing cute about this relationship . This is the kind of content no one wants to see!
