There’s an old song by The Rolling Stones that preaches the importance of knowing the difference between getting what we want and what we need.
Things don’t always work out the way we think they’re supposed to but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. See what I mean and check out these 10+ movie actors who auditioned for a movie and got a completely different part.
Christopher Mintz-Plasse auditioned for the role of Dave Lizewski but was offered the part of Red Mist in *Kick-Ass*.

I remember Chris when he was McLovin in Superbad , and I thought that was a dream casting.
Chris’s inherently awkward nature and quirkiness make him the perfect choice to play Red Mist.
Jackson Rathbone had the role of Edward Cullen until Robert Pattinson came along.

I never noticed it until now but Jackson and Robert could be brothers.
There’s no question in my mind that Jackson would have made a fine Edward Cullen , but it’s hard to envision anyone but Robert in the role.
Lily James auditioned to be an evil stepsister before being cast as the lead in *Cinderella*.

Talk about trading up! It’s hard to imagine Lily acting evil toward anyone, especially after seeing her as Cinderella.
I know the live-action Cinderella isn’t necessarily a classic, but I still wouldn’t mind a sequel.
Would you have wanted to see Liam Hemsworth as Peeta Mellark in *The Hunger Games*

You’ve got to admit that the idea of these two switching roles is enticing to a certain degree.
It would be a totally different film, but is that necessarily a bad thing?
James Franco could have been Peter Parker in *Spider-Man* but wound up playing Harry Osborn.

This is one of the lone disappointments on the list, as far as I’m concerned.
I don’t think that anyone, given the benefit of hindsight , would cast Tobey over James.
Lee Pace wanted to be Star-Lord and wound up portraying Ronin in *Guardians Of The Galaxy*.

No offense to Lee Pace, but it would have been a terrible decision to cast him in place of Chris Pratt.
Star-Lord is Chris in the same way that Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man.
Tom Felton auditioned for Ron Weasley and Harry Potter in *Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone*.

It’s hard to imagine Tom as Harry with that shock of blonde hair.
But try and picture him with a shaggy mop of black hair and rounded spectacles — the image isn’t too far off.
Amanda Seyfried wasn’t mean enough to land the role of Regina George in *Mean Girls*.

I’m more than confident that Amanda Seyfried would have been able to pull off Regina George .
I’m not so sure that Rachel McAdams would have been able to be as convincing as Karen Smith.
Ashley Greene had her heart set on playing Bella in *Twilight*.

Ashley just looks like a Cullen; there’s no other way to say it. Her bubbly personality lends itself perfectly to Alice’s character.
She’s just not awkward enough to be Bella.
Eddie Redmayne read for Tom Riddle but wound up playing Newt Scamander in *Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them*.

This is your classic door-and-window situation. I bet that at the time, Eddie had no idea he’d be back years later starring in his own Harry Potter franchise !
I can’t wait to see Mads Mikkelsen as Grindelwald.
Sebastian Stan planned to wield the shield in *Captain America: The First Avenger*.

If I’m being honest, I think Sebastian Stan may have been an ever better Captain America than Chris Evans!
Keep your fingers crossed that this comes to fruition in Falcon and the Winter Soldier .
Chadwick Boseman originally wanted to be Drax the Destoryer in *Guardians Of The Galaxy*.

Can you imagine what the MCU might look like had Chadwick been cast as Drax ?!
Though our King’s reign was tragically cut short, his legacy will live on. Wakanda forever!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt could have played Michael in *10 Things I Hate About You*.

Who doesn’t love Joseph Gordon-Levitt? The man is a true gem and one of the few childhood actors who were able to avoid the pitfalls and temptations of fame.
Sure, he could have played Michael but he was born to play Cameron.
Tom Hiddleston came incredibly close to being cast as the God of Thunder in *Thor*.

You can actually watch a video of Tom Hiddleston’s audition for Thor — he’s holding Mjolnir while wearing a blonde wig.
It’s a look, to be certain, and goes to show you the importance of a good hair and makeup team .
Cillian Murphy auditioned for Bruce Wayne/Batman in *Batman Begins*.

When Cillian Murphy did his screen test for Batman Begins , he had to wear an old Clooney cowl from Batman & Robin .
It looks ridiculous, but Cillian still manages a stellar performance as the Dark Knight.
