While this may not be true for everyone reading this, it’s a pretty safe bet that most of us didn’t like school.
As if it wasn’t enough that school was boring more days than not and imposed rules that didn’t always make sense, we had our fellow classmates and sometimes even a nemesis teacher to deal with.
And while I was lucky enough that none of the teachers with an axe to grind against me actually taught me, there were a couple of kids I grew up with that made me worry about every day.
So once one dad found out who that kid was in his daughter’s life, he naturally wanted to keep him as far away from her as possible. However, it seemed that not everyone was so happy with that decision.
As this dad tells it, his daughter is one of many kids at her school who has a problem with a bully he called “Nick.”
At some point during the past school year, Nick made the daughter cry by constantly taunting her about the fact that her mother isn’t in her life, which prompted the dad to speak with their teacher.
But while that seemed to stop Nick’s harassment of the daughter, the teacher apparently noted that Nick’s mom never seems to address this behavior with him and chooses to “baby” him instead.
So when his daughter turned seven and held a backyard birthday party for her classmates, it probably shouldn’t come as a suprise that Nick wasn’t invited.
But it apparently came as a surprise to Nick and his mom, who confronted the man after school when he was picking up his daughter.
Apparently, Nick had been crying about the fact that he hadn’t been invited and his mom was similarly angry because she saw this as a chance for him to finally get along with his classmates a week before school ends.
As the dad saw it, Nick had months of chances to do that and his mother had months of chances to discipline him.
In his words, “Bit too late to be trying to make friends now with how he was treating all the kids especially my daughter.”
But when he stood firm on his decision, the encounter with Nick’s mom became more heated.
As he explained, “She just kept saying I should be ashamed of myself for not taking this opportunity teach my daughter a valuable lesson on learning compassion.”
And while he didn’t budge because his daughter said she didn’t want Nick to be there, he’s wondering if he was right to handle the situation this way because he’s still fairly new to parenting.
But as far as the Reddit community he asked was concerned, it wasn’t his daughter who needed to learn the lesson here.
Using the mom’s own words against her, one user said , “She should be ashamed of herself. This would be a great opportunity for her to teach her son about the consequences of his actions.”
Another person who clearly felt similarly said, “The only ‘lesson’ that needs to be learned here is that treating people badly will get you excluded from things.”
But there was one person who not only argued that the daughter did have an important lesson to learn here, but also said that she already learned it.
As they put it, “The daughter learned that her dad has her back. Respects her wishes, and stands up in her place against bullies and the people that enable the bullies.”
