This one teacher came up with a cute reward system for her first graders, and you have to see what it is. I think you’re going to love it.
Marissa Begay, who goes by the handle @theycallmemrsb on TikTok, first introduced her followers to the cutest idea on earth.
Since she’s a first grade teacher, she needed something sweet to give her students to reward them for a job well done.
She bought these adorable erasers from Target to make what she calls “desk pets” for her kids.
They’re a tiny reward that doesn’t cost her a lot of money. In fact, she gets 60 of them for only $1. OMG, wow!
Since she posted her teacher hack, other teachers also jumped on the bandwagon.
And they started creating their own versions of the desk pets. Some of them get tiny animals to put into globes for a new spin on the original idea.
I mean, take a look at this.
Isn’t this the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? Oh my goodness. I would have loved this as a kid. I was always obsessed with collecting tiny plastic animals. I would play with them for hours on end.
So what’s the idea behind these, you ask?
Teachers use these to reward kids for a job well done. They give the kids one of these at the end of the class or the end of the week. The kids can collect more than one.
The desk pet “watches” their child all day.
When they do a great job, they get another pet. At the end of the week, the kids can take these desk pets home. Some of them even create cute habitats for them to live in, too.
Oh my goodness, how awesome and creative are these teachers, huh?
They come up with so many cool things to reward their students. I bet the kiddos are so excited every time they get a new desk pet or some new accessories.
It looks like a lot of people really love this idea.
It’s such a fun and cute way to reward kids for doing well in school. Both teachers and kids can have fun with this. And it doesn’t cost too much for the teachers to do it.
Isn’t it such a great way to get kids to apply themselves in school?
It might be a small reward, but I think it’s so awesome. Taking myself back to my childhood, I would have loved the sentiment of this.
This teacher also came up with her version of desk pets.
She purchased a bag of 62 slightly bigger erasers on Amazon. Then she came up with an idea to put them in these little containers. Isn’t that so fantastic or what?
I totally love this idea but there was a bit of controversy.
However, she also mentioned that if the child misbehaves, she will take the “desk pet” away. And as you can imagine, that didn’t sit very well with some people on TikTok.
This teacher uses these “desk pets” as a behavior incentive, so she was quick to defend herself.
She actually came up with some rules for the kids to use the desk pets. And if they don’t follow them, the desk pet will take a “nap” inside the child’s desk until they behave.
Another teacher came up with her sweet idea for desk pets.
When the kids do a task, or are kind and helpful, they can earn a desk pet certificate. The certificate gives them one food item, decoration, friend, or a house upgrade for their desk pet.
This teacher gives her kids desk pets, and get this — they create little homes for them.
Oh, wow! I think that’s so fantastic because they can use their own imagination to do this. Look how creative the homes are here.
