Nature is such a strange place. Like, literally anything goes. Plants do what they want, animals play by their own rules, and nothing ever seems to make sense.
I guess that’s why we spend most of our times indoors. But when we do, we miss out on the cool, strange things that happen in our own backyards ! Things like the images in this list.

The fact that giant things like trees can just… fall down is always so strange to me. But the part that’s even weirder is the way they bring so much of the ground up with them. And when there’s grass involved? Mind-boggling.

Yeah, that’s just odd. If I didn’t know any better, I’d assume it was some kind of tiny cotton plant, not basil. Weather really can do the strangest things.

Everything about this mushroom is so strange to me. The perfectly round shape. The weird texture of the spots. The fact that it has (what looks like) a bite taken out of the side. Wild.

I love how sidewalks were made so that people can walk around without stepping in nature, and yet nature always finds a way to grow in them. You have to hand it to plants and their ability to grow in the strangest of places.
“This tree in my neighborhood that has 1 branch of an apple tree and the rest is a normal tree.”
I guess this apple tree started growing out of this non-fruit bearing tree? Or maybe it’s some kind of hybrid tree that’s just kind of doing its own thing? Man, trees are literally some of the weirdest things out there.
“This stick looks like a sloth.”
I love the fact that this stick, which was once part of a branch, looks like a sloth, which is a kind of animal that lives in tree branches. That’s, like, a really cool full circle moment right there. Gotta love nature, right?

All the little veins in this leaf make the whole thing look like a super detailed map, which is just awesome. The black spots could be, like, buildings and stuff. And the green parts could be parks.
Is it weird that I kind of want to live there?
“The way this tree ‘ate’ the fence at the park.”
I love the fact that trees truly do not care. They’ll eat up anything that’s too close to them, including literal fences and stuff.
Am I imagining things, or did someone put stickers on one of the rails to make this part of the tree look like a face?
“This scooter fell into the harbor.”
Lose something in the ocean, and it’ll probably be covered in barnacles before long. Those things love to latch on to anything they can find. I guess they aren’t picky when it comes to finding a place to live.
“This mutated saguaro cactus.”
This cactus looks like it’s doing its best broccoli impression. Or maybe it’s trying to be a very neat-looking shrub. Or a person with a curly afro who also happens to be waving. Whatever it is, it sure is cool (and weird).
“Mushroom growing out of a mushroom growing kit.”
Even when a piece of nature technically isn’t in nature, it’ll still do its own thing. Well, if it’s a mushroom, that is. Because those things will literally just grow anywhere if they have the chance.
It looks like whoever buys this growing kit will have a head start.
“Cedar growing in the crook of another tree.”
This is kind of like that apple/non-apple hybrid tree. Except this little cedar is incredibly young compared to the tree it decided to grow on. I wonder if it’ll keep going, or if it’ll get too big and cause the whole thing to fall over eventually.
“A group of black cats out in the wild.”
Why do I have a feeling the person who took this picture is about to have many years of bad luck?
Also, how did all of these black cats find each other? Did one of them send a distress signal or something?

I feel like finding a shed snake skin that’s this perfectly intact must be pretty uncommon.
According to the OP of this picture, the snake this skin came from is pretty chill, but just imagine finding this out in the wild. Creepy.

Even though I know it’s a pumpkin, I’m still confused. Is it, like, two pumpkins that ended up being fused together? Because that’s kind of what it looks like.
Either way, at least it’s pretty cool to look at.
The way this wooden garden wall is decaying.
This strange piece of wood may not look like much, but can you believe it was actually part of a whole garden wall at one point? I guess that’s just what happens to wood over time. On the plus side, it’ll look cool while it lasts.

I don’t know what’s cooler about this leaf: the fact that it has such perfectly round droplets on it, or the fact that the droplets have such cool-looking reflections in them. Either way, this is probably the most autumn picture I’ve seen all year.
“This fox lying on leaves.”
For the record, there is a fox among those leaves (it’s along the top, just to the right of that long shadow). I’m pretty sure the little guy did this on purpose, though, just to confuse all of us. Talk about perfect camouflage, though.
“Found this ‘veiled lady’ mushroom on a hike this morning near Seoul, South Korea.”
I’m, like, convinced that this isn’t an actual fungus. It must be something that came from outer space, and is now growing on Earth, stealing our natural resources or something. It just looks too otherworldly to even be real.
“I found a black acorn by my house today.”
I wonder what happened to make this acorn turn black. Is it rot? Did it get infected with some kind of acorn disease? How did the color end up so dark, but the shape ended up being normal? I guess we’ll never know.
