Before the undisputed reign that Pokémon would have over my childhood affections, I was a pretty big fan of Sailor Moon .
I was intrigued by the stylistic traits of anime, although I didn’t understand what that was at the time, and the idea of people fighting by using brightly colored power waves was also very appealing to me. Even now, thinking about the show essentially guarantees that I’ll get its theme song stuck in my head.
However, you wouldn’t know that I liked the show if you stepped into my room because it was actually pretty difficult to get Sailor Moon merchandise on this side of the world for a time.
And perhaps that has a lot to do with the fact that until recent years, a Sailor Moon edition of Monopoly was strangely absent from the board game’s endless gallery of collaborations.
For the most part, you’ll notice that this version of Monopoly doesn’t stray far from how the game traditionally works.
Other than stylistic choices like rebranding the “Chance” and “Community Chest” cards as “Love” and “Friendship” cards, you’re still taking your piece on a series of journeys around the board to acquire as many spaces as possible.
Still, it must feel weird when such positively named cards either cost you money or send you to jail.
And as YouTuber Sailor Tortilla pointed out, jail is still simply jail in this version of Monopoly.
Although passing Go nets you 200 Sailor Moon bucks instead of regular dollars, you still put up houses and hotels as your normally would.
You also may have noticed that rather than locations in the show, you go around the board to buy its characters.
So rather than acquire different values of property, your portfolio can range from smaller investments like spending 60 Sailor Moon bucks on the Sailor Scouts’ cats to dropping 400 of them on Neo Queen Serenity herself.
That makes it a little hard to understand what exactly you’re supposed to be doing when you put houses or hotels on them, but whatever.

The answer is that you apparently choose to be one of the items of power that the Sailor Scouts use.
So now, it appears that the Spiral Heart Moon Rod or the Cosmic Heart Compact can gain control of Serena instead of the other way around.
But all that aside, if this Monopoly game is the perfect way to complete your Sailor Moon collection, it’s not hard to find.
