Wearing a uniform to work has always been a real hit to peoples’ self-expression, but that’s simply what the working world is like. Whether it be protective equipment or a shirt with a logo, people have to represent the brand they’re under.
What happens when the brand’s uniform makes their employees feel genuinely uncomfortable, though? That’s what happened to a large group of Hooters employees who felt their new uniforms were just too much, or rather, too little.

Hooters has recently come under fire by its own employees for a policy change.
“You know we have great food, sports and ice cold beer… but the lovely Hooters girls make us famous!” reads the chain’s website. Unfortunately, a recent move made against those very Hooters girls has left many of them feeling unhappy, to the point of wanting to quit.
The servers have taken to TikTok to express their concerns.
They’re speaking out against a uniform change that was originally trialed in a few Texas locations but recently rolled out to franchises across the country.
The change in question? The company has drastically cut the length of the server’s shorts.
Many of the girls working the floor are not okay with how short they are now.
“[So Hooters] got new panties. [I] mean shorts,” read the caption of TikTok user @lexiusxoxo as she showed off how the new uniform looks on her, revealing just how short it really is.
It only gets worse when you see the comparison between the old and new ones.

User @ggnguyen’s TikTok about the matter featured on-screen text that read, “[Oh]… [I] know it ain’t my new uniform shorts…” as she displayed the new and old pairs side by side.
Her video has been especially popular, sporting 18 million views with 3 million likes.
Another comparison video blames the shorts for girls suddenly wanting to quit.
“[All] right so we all know why half the [Hooters] girls want to quit,” says the first batch of dialogue on user @sick.abt.it’s video, which then plays out into a skit wherein the company tries to convince itself it’s not the shorts.
Her caption reads, “[Love] my job but don’t love wearing undies to work.”
Her video also got incredibly popular, and she actually made a follow-up a few days later.
In this video, she shares that because of how popular her complaint got, the CEO of Hooter’s messaged her personally and said that she can continue wearing the old shorts.
She thanked everyone who interacted with her first post, saying she ‘couldn’t have done it without’ them.
And thankfully, all the uproar has caused Hooters to back down somewhat.
The company put out a statement saying the employees can choose whether or not they wear the old shorts or the new ones. “They can determine which style of shorts best fits their body style and personal image,” it read.
It’s nice to see that the employee backlash did result in positive policy change, but many are still debating if the shortening of the uniform was a good move to start with.
