One of the scariest parts about getting married is having to deal with potential in-laws. Best case scenario, you get along just fine with your partner’s parents. Worst case, they try to make your life as miserable as possible, just because they don’t think you’re “good enough” for their kid.

The user wrote about how her MIL didn’t like her because she “took my son away from me.” In order to try and make OP and her husband jealous, she would constantly text OP about all the new, expensive things she had at home. One day, she even took OP’s husband’s brother (and his girlfriend and her sister) on a vacation, not bothering to invite OP or the husband. She would also text OP about the vacation, sharing pics and all the expensive gifts she bought the other son and his girlfriend/girlfriend’s sister.
The tables turned when OP and her husband vacationed with her parents. This made the MIL incredibly jealous, prompting her to say she “wanted to be the best mom in the world.” MIL is mad because they seemed to show favoritism toward OP’s parents.

According to OP, her husband and his mother don’t get along very well to begin with. Which makes a lot of sense given the story, and yet doesn’t make sense. Hopefully, distance will be better for them.
