When a 78-year-old grandmother realized someone was attempting to break into her home, she didn’t panic. Instead, she grabbed her shotgun and took control of the situation, forcing the intruder to stay and wait for the police with her.
As KIRO reported, the elderly woman from Spanaway, Washington, who has only been identified as Sandy, treated the unsuspecting intruder to quite the surprise when she revealed she’s not just your average grandma — she’s packing heat .

On the evening of September 20, Sandy became concerned when her dog, Booboo, began barking nonstop.
Upon investigating the source behind her dog’s unease, the woman came face-to-face with a man who was attempting to break into her home.
“At the moment I was scared to death, I really was,” she admitted to KIRO , adding that they stared at each other for a few minutes.
Naturally, when the man realized he’d been caught in the act, he attempted to flee, but Sandy wasn’t about to let him get away that easily.
“I said, ‘Oh, no you don’t. You stay right there,'” she recalled. “And I reached over and got my shotgun and I cocked it and I told him to stay right there because he was going to turn and walk away.”
Taking control of the situation, Sandy ordered the man to go outside and sit on the steps while keeping her shotgun pointed at him.
“[When] he got to the bottom of the steps I told him to sit down and I just stood here with the shotgun waiting for the police to come,” she explained.
“I was totally calm, really and truly. I said, ‘You know, I’ve got grandchildren your age.’”
Eventually, local authorities showed up and arrested the man, but Sandy decided not to press any charges, so he was released.
However, I’d say it’s not very likely he’ll be attempting any more home invasions after getting a gun pointed at him by a no-nonsense 78-year-old homeowner.
“[He] was so meek and mild and sat down like I told him to,” Sandy said, adding that the encounter was actually quite “empowering”.
“I felt like at least I was in charge, I wasn’t afraid.”
