There’s a lot that fans expect from the character of Harley Quinn. It’s not surprising that she had some trouble getting into the role either: she is, in fact, a psychopath who loves to kill.
Thankfully, Kaley Cuoco is a great actress, so after some practice, she was able to find her way. But it wasn’t an easy journey!
We should talk about the fall (and potential rise) of DC.
It’s a fascinating tale of loss, an attempt to copy something popular, and then finding themselves somewhere unexpected.
And spoiler alert, it was not somewhere great.
It all starts back in the late ’70s.
Where DC reigned supreme when it came to movies.
First was their Superman series, in which Christopher Reeve has gone down in history.
Then, of course, there was Tim Burton’s Batman .
And all this success continued until the 2000s.
Until X-Men hit the big screen. Now Marvel was a major contender, but nothing could stand up to the powerhouse that was the Nolan Batman trilogy.
Yes, it seemed as if DC would ride off into the sunset with this one…

But alas, just as Icarus fell because he flew too close to the sun, DC fell because of one movie: ‘Iron Man’.
Or at least the cinematic universe that movie ended up creating.
It seems that after being in the shadows for so many years, Marvel was ready to take the throne.
And take the throne they did.
And now, we live in a Marvel world, where everything that Marvel does is praised as gospel, whereas everything DC does… well, isn’t.
Unless of course, it’s Wonder Woman .
But there is one thing that DC is spectacular at.
And that’s making television shows.
If you don’t believe me, look to the Arrowverse for more information. That entire television universe has been going on for years now.
On their television shows, they are able to really get into the background of some of the most iconic comic characters.
Maybe that’s why people prefer the shows to the movie in the first place?!
Which is good news anyhow considering the show we’re about to get into!
DC’s already new iconic show has to do with two of our favorite ladies.
The wacky and delightfully crazy Harley Quinn, and the beautiful and talented Kaley Cuoco.
With women like that, why wouldn’t you want to watch the show?
It stars Kaley Cuoco.
You know, the girl from The Big Bang Theory .
There have already been a couple of trailers shown (and they all have naughty words in them). But most of all, they look fun.
But apparently, Kaley Cuoco had some trouble getting into the role.
She spoke with TVLine about becoming Harley Quinn. And it wasn’t an easy thing to do:
“I think with any character, especially when on a new show, it takes some getting used to.”
She also talks about the troubles of voice acting:
“I’ve perfected certain looks and facial expressions over the years, so this in a way was harder — also because I’m voicing someone as iconic as Harley.”
And she’s right, Harley is awfully iconic.
Since her first appearance in Batman: The Animated Series , she’s stayed in the hearts of comic book fans everywhere.
And she’s been played by some really talented actresses: Tara Strong and Margot Robbie stick out in the mind.
And she addressed that as well:
As the other actresses had, she decided not to do a voice (as in, Harley’s iconic Brooklyn accent).
“And also, my voice is very recognizable, so I didn’t want to force an accent or try to be someone I’m not.”
In the end, she figured out just what she had to do to make the role work for her.
“I’m ‘Kaley as Harley,’ and accepting that early on enabled me to me free and very authentic.”
We’re happy to hear that too, otherwise, the show would have definitely felt off.
We’ll see how authentic and free the show ends up being once all the critics and reviews come in.
But remember to watch it and form your own opinion too. Sometimes critics are just mean for no reason.
