I generally consider myself pretty neutral when it comes to movie and TV spoilers. I don’t actively seek them out, but knowing what’s going to happen hasn’t stopped me from enjoying a movie when I do come across them.
However, it’s no secret that a lot of people take them incredibly seriously. I know a guy who actually got into a fistfight with a friend of his because they were careless enough to spoil Game of Thrones on him.
Still, I’m not sure even my buddy’s level of intensity about this can match the long con one seriously enraged Avengers fan pulled off.
As our spurned fan said on Reddit, this all started with an Instagram post.
In it, he talked about how excited he was to see Infinity War and used the hashtag #Thanosdemandsyoursilence to let others know they shouldn’t spoil it for him.
However, the problem is that hashtag made his post easily searchable on Instagram.
What he then presumes happened is that someone searched this hashtag, found his post, and went on a spoiler spree.
This person then left a comment on his post, where he proceeded to list absolutely every character who dies in the movie.
Naturally, the snap alone would give him a long, hard-to-ignore list.

By the time this was posted, the fan hadn’t seen the movie yet and was infuriated.
However, he also knew that the sequel was already confirmed, so he began a secret and surprisingly long-term plan to get his revenge.
First, he messaged this person to lie and said he had already seen the movie, but it was a good prank.
So good, in fact, that he suddenly wanted to befriend the troll and start hanging out on social media. At least, that’s what the hapless spoiler thought was going on.
This fake friendship carried on for about seven months.
In that time, they texted memes to each other, talked movies and just generally chatted.
But at no point during this time did the fan start to like the troll. This was all about making him comfortable and gaining his trust.
Finally, the release of “Avengers:Endgame” was imminent and the wrath of the fan could begin.
He made sure his tickets were ready for opening night and learned to his delight that his “friend” was planning on seeing it the following week.
While at the theater, he took an array of spoileriffic photos.
Although, he outlined the spoilers he captured, the person who reposted his Reddit thread didn’t.
So not only am I not going to spoil them in case you haven’t seen the movie yet, but I was lucky enough to not have it spoiled for me either.
Once the fan got out, he almost considered not doing it. Not because he felt bad for the guy, but because he feels that spoiling in general is lame.
Still, he figured the guy deserved it and texted him telling him the movie was great. The troll said not to spoil it, to which the fan replied, “Oh, like how you spoiled Infinity War?”
The troll started to get a little nervous and said, “Hey man, that was a long time ago, we’re friends now.”
This didn’t deter the fan and he spent about 30 seconds posting all of his photos and filling in the blanks on various plot points.
As you might expect, the troll cussed him out and said he was a horrible person.
But then the troll said what the fan was waiting to hear all along: “How could you do that, we’re such good friends?”
To this, the fan replied, “We’re not friends. A year ago, you picked me out of a crowd of thousands and ruined a movie that I had been wanting to see for months. Since then, I’ve been lying to you, deceiving you, and gaining your trust all for this moment. You are not my friend, just a person who got what they deserve.”
Unsurprisingly, the guy hasn’t talked to our disturbingly motivated fan since. I suppose he considered that seven months well spent?
