We’re talking a long list of rules. Some make sense, such as curtsying to the Queen and always looking put-together.
But others, like always keeping your chin level, gives reason for pause.
Here are 10+ dumb rules the royal family has no choice but to follow.
1. When the queen stops eating, they have to stop eating:
First, you can’t sit at the table before the Queen does.
Then, you better eat fast since as soon as she’s done eating, the plates are taken away.
2. They can’t play molonopy:
Yes, really.
The reason why? “It gets too vicious,” Prince Andrew once said .
3. They can’t sign autographs:
Autographs are banned for one very important reason: they can’t afford to have their signatures duplicated.
4. They can’t take selfies:
When it comes to selfies, the royals simply aren’t fans.
When a fan asked Prince Harry for a selfie in 2015, he replied , “No, I hate selfies. Seriously, you need to get out of it. I know you’re young, but selfies are bad.”
5. They don’t open Christmas presents on Christmas day:
First off, the celebrations are always held at the Queen’s country home in Norfolk, called the Sandringham Estate.
Then, the presents are opened on Christmas eve during tea time in the Red Drawing Room.
6. They can’t have garlic:
What the Queen says, goes!
“At Buckingham Palace you don’t cook with garlic,” former palace chef John Higgins told the National Post .
“I suppose in case you get the royal burp.”
7. In addition to this, they can’t have shellfish since it’s known to cause food poisoning.
Say goodbye to those carbs, too, since potatoes, rice, and pasta are off-limits during dinner.
8. Women have to sit a certain way:
Sitting with their legs wide open is a serious no-no!
Instead, they must do what’s known as the ” Duchess slant .” This is when they slant their legs to one side with their ankles together.
9. When the Queen puts her purse on the table, dinner is done:
The Queen has one talking purse.
When it’s on the table, dinner has to be wrapped up within five minutes.
She also uses it to save her from tiresome conversation.
Basically, if she switches her bag from one hand to the other in conversation, she’s ready to end the convo , stat.
10. Women have to watch their chin placement:
“When your chin points down or up it gives the impression that you’re not paying attention or not interested in what’s happening,” explained royal etiquette expert Myka Meier.
11. The Queen’s corgis’ are never in trouble:
They could be a good boi or a bad boi — it doesn’t matter to the Queen!
