There’s no denying the devotion some people have towards their pets . Considering how close we can become to our furry friends, and the value they bring to our lives, it’s not a shock that some people would go out of their way to ensure their animal’s safety.
But, with anything, that does mean some people take it a little too far, like one man who’s now facing fines for trying to free his beloved dog from the pound.
An Australian man is facing quite the fine.

As Australia’s ABC News reported, Yarran Scott Dimer pled guilty to two charges of trespassing and criminal damage for a late-night excursion he took last October.
Where to? The local dog pound, where he had the idea of breaking in and rescuing his dog, who was taken the day before for being unregistered. He snuck onto the property in the middle of the night, cut a hole in the perimeter fence, and smashed a padlock in attempt to retrieve his dog.
Those charges certainly stacked up.

Dimer is being fined $800 for the trespassing and $300 for the criminal damage, as well as another approximately $300 in court fees and compensation, meaning his plan ended up costing him over $1400.
And funnily enough, this isn’t even the first time it happened.

Magistrate Genevieve Cleary mentioned another case extremely similar to this one, wherein a man broke into the pound to help his dog escape, only in this case it happened during the day and alerted workers.
“At least in your case you didn’t frighten the staff,” she said about Dimer.
With this case, Magistrate Cleary is hoping people will see the severity in trying to subvert the law.

She said this was “very serious offence”.
“Councils are entitled to control animals in their domain. There are rules which we all need to follow […] I need to send a message to the community that people cannot take matters into their own hands.”
Dimer certainly sees the faults in his actions as well.

“I was in Perth at the time,” he said. “I got back home and they had taken it that morning. That [break-in] was a silly mistake. I was drunk at the time and pissed off.”
He got his dog, whom he described as his “best friend”, registered immediately after getting her back to ensure she’s not taken from him ever again.
