The Irwin family has a fantastic legacy, and it’s not hard to see why. The family is as passionate about animal and wildlife welfare as the late Steve Irwin was, and they’ve dedicated themselves to the cause.
Steve’s kids, Bindi and Robert, have really followed their father’s footsteps.

Robert, now 15, is already a television personality and wildlife activist. He’s also the spitting image of his father.
Here’s a photograph Robert recently posted of himself and his father feeding a crocodile.

Robert captioned the shot “Dad and me feeding Murray… same place, same croc – two photos 15 years apart.”
His older sister Bindi is also following her dad’s path.

Bindi has hosted a variety of wildlife television programs in Australia, and also works at the Australia Zoo just like her family.
That zoo is the place that Steve Irwin met his wife.

Terri told People that she had met Steve there while he was giving a tour. There had been an instant connection.
She said that after she returned to the States, she waited eagerly to hear back from Steve.

And in a few weeks, she did. Steve called her and told her he was flying all the way out to Oregan to meet her again.
This is a pretty familiar story to Bindi.

Bindi met her longtime boyfriend Chandler while she was giving a tour at the Australia Zoo. They also connected instantly and exchanged phone numbers.
Chandler called Bindi’s mom after he returned to the States to get permission to come back to see Bindi again.

It worked out well for them, since they’ve been together over six years. Recently, on Bindi’s birthday, they took their relationship a step further.
Bindi and Chandler just got engaged!

Bindi shared the news on her Instagram, writing, “On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life.”
Bindi knows her dad would approve.

Speaking to Australia Women’s Weekly , Bindi said, “Mum and Robert and I have talked about that a lot. We all think dad would have loved Chandler.”
She also shared that the photographs of her engagement were taken by her brother.

She wrote, “Chandler and Robert worked together to capture the moment I said ‘YES’. We were in the gardens of Australia Zoo and it was beyond perfect.”
“I never even knew Robert was there photographing.”

“I’ll always be grateful to have these special memories of the most amazing day of my life,” she continued.
Robert left a support comment on the photos.

“I was so very happy to capture this beautiful moment!!! Love you guys” he wrote beneath the sweet pictures.
Robert shared a longer message of excitement on his own Instagram.

“I’ve photographed some pretty cool stuff in my time… nothing comes close to this,” he said. “I was so happy and thankful that @chandlerpowell asked me to secretively document the moment that @bindisueirwin said yes! One of the most special times ever.”
Bindi and Robert are so close that Bindi wants Robert to walk her down the aisle.

She told Entertainment Tonight that, “I think that for me, it’ll be really important that Robert walks me down the aisle.”
“I think that’s what dad would have wanted as well.”

“I’m always so grateful that Robert is there, and he has been such a big part of my life and he’s always stepped up and been the one to give me a hug when I need it and encourage me forward in life,” Bindi said.
Fans of the family were understandably emotional at the news.
Many took to Twitter to express their emotions at hearing that Bindi wanted her brother involved in such a meaningful way at her wedding.
Some even offered their own services.
It really does feel like everyone is part of the Irwin family after having watched the kids grow up over the past twenty years!
It is an emotional moment.
Even knowing that Bindi and Chandler met the same way that Bindi’s mom and dad met was enough to get my eyes watering.
And if anyone tries to tell me it doesn’t matter, I’ll let them have it.
Just like what this Twitter user jokingly suggested they did to their mom when she expressed that she didn’t care who walked Bindi down the aisle.
We’re all excited to see what they share from Bindi and Chandler’s big day!
Hopefully they share some dance footage — Bindi won Dancing With The Stars in 2015 when she was just 17 years old.
Congratulations on your engagement, Bindi and Chandler!
