Parenting with your husband can be a bit of an uphill battle for some women. Sometimes, husbands rely on their wives to do most of the heavy-lifting with raising their kids. Of course, there are those dads who are super hands-on, but, many times, wives seem to complain that their husbands don’t do enough.
Recently, one wife wrote into Reddit sharing a little trick she’s discovered to get her hubby to help out a bit more.
The wife, who is a mom to twins , said that she and her husband are both on maternity and paternity leave from work. However, her husband seems to be flaking out on some of the parenting duties.
The wife claims that her husband goes to “hide” in the bathroom when he has to do things.
“My husband is on medication that makes him spend a lot of time in the bathroom about an hour after a meal. It’s a medication he has been on and off several times over the past year. He is never on it for more than a few weeks, and it does not effect him all the time, but he always claims that is why he is in the bathroom,” she added.
However, the wife pointed out that he always brings his phone with him.
“I would rather let him use the restroom first than have to put down a baby mid-task, but over the past couple months, he has been spending more and more time in there. He always takes his phone. He is always watching YouTube. His average session is 25 minutes in there, often longer, rarely shorter,” she said.
She’s incredibly frustrated and said that there’s so much to be done, especially with twins.
“I will warm up bottles, change one baby bum, get the first one fed, burped, and laid down in their crib, get the other baby changed and be [settling] down to feed baby number two before he can be bothered to emerge and figure out why one child has been screaming because they had to watch their sibling eat,” she said.

The wife decided to come up with a “new rule.”
“Today I started a new rule. If he is in the bathroom for more than 10 minutes, I flip the wifi off. He has not [spent] more than 15 minutes in the bathroom at a stretch today, but is extremely upset.
I feel like the fact that without the wifi his uncontrollable toilet issue cleared up rather quickly proves why it needs to be done, but he feels I am being unreasonable, and I need to make sure sleep deprivation isn’t making me an asshole,” she added.
The wife asked the Reddit community if she’s an asshole for turning the wifi off.
She claims that she has spoken to him about the situation and her husband “denies spending that much time in the bathroom,” although, his wife has timed and kept track.
The majority of Reddit users said, if anything, her husband is the asshole.
“What kind of a man f—- around on the internet while his baby screams and cries? He deserves it,” one person said in the comments.
Others said her husband is treating his paternity leave like a “vacation.”
“I’m getting really angry that he’s treating parental leave like an extended vacation. Some mothers aren’t even fortunate enough to get maternity leave (hi from good ol’ USA) and this dude here is playing video games all day,” they said.
Others said this husband needs a stern talking to because things most likely won’t change if not.
“If this were a real medical issue, he’d make the doctor’s appointment as was his care provider’s recommendation, and losing wifi would not impact duration.
While this is a clever trick that’s working for now, it probably won’t last if you two don’t manage to confront the underlying issue. He’s going to figure out how to pre-load content, download videos, or play offline games,” one person said.
